I'm back!

After 3 weeks out injured, infuriatingly in W9, I've tried my first tentative running steps. Not sure how it would go so a few days ago I tried the 1 min intervals from W1, which was reassuringly easy with no after effects. So where to restart? I decided on W5R1 with the 5 min intervals on a REALLY slow jog. Success! Feeling fab, can't tell you how much I've missed the running, and this is from someone who has never run before, so much so that my morning run slots have become morning brisk walk slots. Thank you so much to those who gave brilliant practical advice about recovery and links to physio exercises. 🏃‍♂️ 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️

So glad to see you here! Take it steady-be prepared to stop if you get pain and if you find you hit the 20 minute continuous run a little quickly, it’s totally fine to repeat.

I’ve found coming back from injury a frustrating mix of elation when runs are pain free and go well, and feeling really fed up when at other times the pain has come back (less than before) forcing me to cut short. Generally, the trajectory is upwards and there will be good runs and bad runs. Hopefully it’ll be straightforward for you, but I always think it’s good to be mentally prepared that it might take time. Keep up with those exercises!

Really good luck to you! Cheering you on! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

EDIT: Sorry I’ve read that back and it all sounds so negative. You’ve made a great start with your return to runs-just enjoy!

Thanks for your comments, not negative just realistic and I appreciate that. I've already given myself a big pep talk about returning to running. A mantra almost, stop at any hint of further injury, take extra rest days if I feel the need, keep repeating runs until my body feels up to the extra load, keep up the physio and finally take it slowly🐌.
