After a very long break from running, including recovering from pneumonia, for some reason today I found myself putting on my running gear and heading out!

Being ill over Christmas left me not even able to walk very far, but Iโ€™ve been trying over the past few weeks. When my chest stopped hurting I even broke into a trot a few times!

I put on some music and off I went. Warm up walk done and I started to jog. Managed a slow kilometre and stopped to cross the road. I thought 2K would be enough for today and the last half a kilometre was certainly tough. Iโ€™ll be walking next week to build my strength up before trying another run.

I wasnโ€™t even going to upload this run, but my mobile decided to do it anyway, so Iโ€™ve been rumbled ๐Ÿ˜‚

Good to be back! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

Hello and welcome back!

Well done you.. listening to the body and taking notice..:)

Building back is what so, so many of us are doing or have done over the last weeks ... just getting back on track safely, ( me included) !

Huge well done to you... keep it steady and you will be where you wish to be :)

I bet it felt brilliant to have that first run back ticked off. Itโ€™s often such a tough one mentally to start. Hope youโ€™re super proud of yourself. โค๏ธ

You could consider using come of the early weeks of c25k to build back again. Thatโ€™s a really common way to go that works wonders for many people. I did regular fifteen minute runs for a while until I felt ready to move on. Whatever you end up doing, take it really steady, listen to your body and make sure you celebrate how well youโ€™re doing just by being out again.

thank you - yes, itโ€™s been difficult to go on that first run! I did consider repeating some of the weeks on C25K again, but decided on the 15 minute runs. I think that will work well for me.

I've been wondering how you were doing Jools! Pneumonia can really take it out of you so it's good that you feel like going for a run again. Take things slow and steady, but of course you know that! Great to have you back!๐Ÿค—

Hello Jools, good to see your post! The plovers settled down over here and I was getting out there again, but then I broke down again. It has been a few weeks and I am still recovering very slowly. Take care.

Hi there Jools2020, this is just what I needed to see this morning, well done to you!I too, like many others , have been having a long break from running, due to illness.....I'm now on the waiting list to see a lung specialist...that's a story for another day....but I miss running..๐Ÿฅบ...I've been thinking about maybe starting somewhere in C25K again....to start building up my strength....

However, first I've got the hurdle of being back at work, and managing that potential end of day exhaustion to tackle...

Those are my hurdles, you've done amazingly to get out there so soon after pneumonia! Keep going........you've got this! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate in reply to Cakerunner

Thanks, Cakerunner - Iโ€™ve been making excuses not to run for a couple of weeks!

Iโ€™m sorry youโ€™ve been struggling with illness, too. Dipping into C25K again is a good idea. Like Beatlesforever has found, Week 6 is good, Run2. Once youโ€™ve got used to being back at work. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate in reply to Cakerunner

Thanks, we can do it! I was thinking about 2 options. Go back to Week 6 Run 2 (thatโ€™s 10 minutes running, 3 minutes walking and 10 minutes running) or just go out and run for 15 minutes. All to be done slowly! Good luck with your hurdles ๐Ÿ˜Š

Another reminder to set privacy controls in Strava:

โš™๏ธ icon, then Preferences/Privacy controls. Activities: "Only You"

You can then upload photos, edit the activity title, change gear, etc., before sharing it to everyone by changing that activity's Visibility.
