Starting (nearly) again!

I graduated at the end of Sept but running since has been more miss than hit as a result of the horrendous wet weather! I'm not adverse to a rainy run, but we had high winds / lightening the works for what felt like weeks! I need to start again having not run for probably 4 weeks now... but I'm hoping I won't need to go back to week 1. I was looking forward to some cooler winter runs, but hadn't anticipated so much rain!

Really good luck for your comeback run! The key thing is to do something so you’re a runner who ran today instead of four weeks ago. It’s much, much, easier when that first one in a while is out of the way. If you use the Nike run club app, they’re got one called “comeback run” which is fifteen minutes long. I’ve done that a few times. Don’t push it. Take it slowly. Plan to do less and finish feeling good.

Hope it goes well!

Well done on getting back Into running. I too just graduated and found the very wet weather and dark evenings a big barrier to keeping it up. I asked at my local gym and now pay as I go to use a treadmill (never been in a gym in my life). They were very happy to let me do this so I now have an opportunity to run somewhere if the weather is bad. I run outside whenever I can and the odd treadmill helps when I can’t.

It can be exhilarating running in stormy weather but you have to have the correct warm and wet weather clothing on to keep dry. Invest in warm base layers and a properly water proof running jacket.

As far as the comeback run is concerned just run what you can and walk a bit until you are ready to run again. You should be able to get back to where you were in a couple of weeks.

I totally agree about having good kit. Over the (almost!) year I’ve been running, I’ve really enjoyed accumulating all sorts of useful stuff. Absolute hate running in a waterproof though. I end up feeling like I’m boiling in the bag! I think they’re a bit marmite. Just something to consider before spending a lot on one!
