Just getting started…

Newbie here. I’m on week 2… of doing week 1! 😂 but that’s okay, don’t mind repeating weeks until I’m ready to move on. Just happy to actually be getting out there and doing it.

I’ve been very sedentary for a while so as you can imagine my fitness is quite poor but the biggest challenge for me is my even poorer mental health. Exercise is difficult for me as it triggers feelings of panic, which isn’t helpful at all when you’re trying to get fit. Anyone else had/have this? I’d be interested to know if C25K has helped improve mental health.

I’ll keep on with it and fingers crossed I’ll feel better and be able to join my friends on a 5k in no time!

YOU are fabulous..repeating week 1 is absolutely ok…you can do this at your own pace…but if you’ve completed week 1 there’s only you holding you back…move on ..have a go at week 2..you might just surprise yourself…and also, remember that you are an inspiration to others without even realising…someone might see you and take up running , you never know…keep going, we’re all cheering for you

Welcome, and well done!

This programme is not just beneficial for our physical well being, but also our mental well being and there are many, many of us with issues similar to your own. For me, I know, it has kept me going through some very hard times mentally, as well as physically.

Take your time... choose routes that give you things to look at as you run. Set out your gear the night before... look forward to it.

When you head out, take it slow and steady, really look around, notice things, everything around you, the sights the sounds and the sensations.

Try to relax, then as the runs get longer, you can focus on different aspects of your running, your posture, your form, etc, but for now.... try to let your mind just ease, with the joy of being out there.

You are amidst friends here, and even if you feel you are running on your own... you will never be running alone. We are right there beside you!

Let us know how you go on.

thank you for sharing your challenges and your success - completing week one and doing it again whilst having to battle anxiety is a massive win - we’ll done!

Yep, I understand your situation - I have been there and, occasionally, am back there. Running, although I’m not quick and don’t run far, just gives me something - I’m not sure what, but it definitely has built my mental strength and made me more confident- hard to explain - maybe it’s just knowing I’ve achieved something I never expected to be able to—— who knows?

It just makes me feel good so I keep doing it. I agree you will be out with your friends soon - keep us posted on how it’s going for you. Just about to go and get my fix - your post has inspired me to move! Thank you
