When Denise Lewis congratulates me for coming this far and asks do I feel the benefit of running I want to scream, NO Nothing so far, still feel dead on my feet, red as a beetroot and sweaty every time. Haven't given up though! Graduated 2 weeks ago.
When does this feel good?: When Denise Lewis... - Couch to 5K
When does this feel good?
I think sweat comes with the territory! Well done for keeping at it, although I winder if you've unconsciously speeded up, which may be why you're not feeling the joy! I think it's pretty common to struggle with slow pace after graduating! Good luck.
Not everyone gets a feelgood sensation from running, but for most, slowing down to the recommended easy conversational pace makes it more achievable and for most, more enjoyable.
Counterintuitively, it is an easy conversational pace running that builds your stamina and endurance, not fast running.
Say this sentence out loud to yourself "Am I going slow enough to enable me to speak this sentence in one out breath?" If you cannot, you are going too fast.
If you are dead on your feet then it sounds like you are pushing too hard.
Relax, find somewhere beautiful, distracting and inspiring to run and go for a gentle jog. It will develop your body more effectively than pushing hard and who knows, you might enjoy it.
I'm at about the same stage as you, and am finding the C25K+ podcasts really helpful. I've done the Stepping Stone one 5 times now, it helps with cadence and I find the long tracks really makes the time go quickly (whereas with normal music, I'm aware that 'only one track has finished so I've only done about 2 or 3 mins running' which isn't helpful!
How hard are you breathing during your run and at the point you stop? Are you panting, wheezing , blowing hard etc? Would you be able to to carry on for another 10-20 minutes if you had to?/
Not breathing hard, just tired, could maybe last another 5 minutes max on the flat. Am awaiting blood checks for thyroid etc so not going to push myself until all clear.
