Hi all,

My first post on here, though have been trying to do C25K since 01st Jan 2021. Second week of C25K last year put me on crutches for a good few weeks as I did something to my hip flexors, this was a combination of being sat in a chair too much for the previous period of lockdown, and using a pair of trainers well past their best. I eventually managed to get through all 9 weeks, but then had to stop as I was suffering from blisters (caused by the new pair of trainers I'd bought earlier in the year). I haven't done C25K properly for a couple of months, but today went out and rather than start from week 1, I concentrated on slowing things down and jogged for 25 minutes non stop, which I was well chuffed with. Will be doing a few more weeks and then plan on doing a park run when Drakeford in Wales sees sense and opens things back up.

TL;DR - If anyone hasn't run for a few weeks, don't think you have to go back to the very beginning, you'll be surprised at how much of the gains you made over the 9 weeks will still be with you.

Steven.

Great that you are back out there.

Welcome to the forum.

We recommend that if you have a break from running that you go out and see what you can comfortably manage, using C25k, or something similar to gently build back condition and injury resistance.

We are all capable of doing way more than our bodies are conditioned to do, but not without increasing our injury risk. Sticking to gently progressive training plans is the safest way to push our limits, whilst gently increasing our resistance to injury.

Injury often strikes out of the blue and can stop you for days, weeks or even months, so take it easy.

You might find browsing through the FAQ posts helpful healthunlocked.com/couchto5... which give basic info on a range of running related issues.

Have fun.

Well done on getting back out there !Building up again gently is the best way after time out .

You may still have aerobic capacity but your resistance to injury will not be the same, be careful not to push on too soon !
