Still running.....

Havent posted for a while but thought I'd post an update to encourage any one else. When I stared this I wasn't in a particularly good place, how life has changed. The programme wasn't easy and at times I struggled. I'm in my 50s and lost fitness due to illness and put a lot of weight on. I still run 3 times a week. Snails pace but I don't care. I'm gradually increasing my pace and distance. Today I've just done my first 5k, something I never thought I'd say. Although running doesn't help you loose weight, I started to feel better about myself and made better choices, I've now lost over 2 stone which helps with the running, on rest days I do yoga. To all of those staring out or struggling through, you can do this. Good luck and keep running.

Well done on your 5k, you are proof that the programme works and keep it up, slow and steady always wins the race.

Keep running and keep smiling.

Running can help with losing weight if you are doing other things as well, as you've found out.

What a positive post! Thank you. Running puts us in a much better head space and more able to tackle other things I think. Well done on your weight loss too 😁. Keep on running!

Well done on your 5k! I know you will be feeling really pleased - may that feeling last for days.. I am very slow too and have lost a stone too! Not through running, as everyone says, but it does help us feel more enabled I think.

Thanks for sharing this. Running did a lot of good to me too. Let's keep on running 🤗

Well, that's encouraging! I just started yesterday, with my first run. I'm 56 and have just had five years in bed with medium-to-severe ME/CFS! I managed to lost 2 stones last year, whilst still bedbound, but I've put 13lbs back on. I didn't mind completely, because due to not exercising I looked like a slim sack of potatoes (no muscles), so I wanted to get fit. I joined the gym but it lasted 5 days due to boredom, and I managed to miss 7 trial walks with a walking club. Then an email arrived from the walking club, mentioning their running club - and my mind and body lit up! So I ordered the first pair of running shoes that have ever fit me - from Skechers; I take a wide at the toe - and bingo! I never thought I would be a runner, as I thought runner always hurt their knees, but I chose Jo Whiley, and the runs, let's face it, are tiny! So I got through, even though my breathing was almost at bursting point each run!! LOL. People on the public footpaths were looking over their shoulder to see what this noisy person was doing (huff, puff, gasp!), which amused me no end. After all, who's ever been in their 50s and had years of a serious illness before? So I look forward to getting to the bit where I can do 5k, and hopefully people won't be looking over their shoulders at me!! Ha ha... I might even join that running club. I just had to see if I could run at all before trying to join with others! And I reckon at least another couple of weeks of this would enable me to hold my head high enough. Anyway, that's enough for me. I was always chosen last for running races at school, perhaps because I'm only 5'4" and didn't run fast enough, so I'm amazed that I should be doing this now! The first run was one of the most beautiful days of my life; incandescent autumn colours and sunshine after 5 years stuck in the bed is the most wondrous experience! And thanks to this forum, I realised last night I can carry a mac, tissues, my phone and house keys in the bum bag I already had, but have never used! Then I woke up today to find an email with this message. Thanks for posting. Cheers!

Well done 👏

Oh! Thanks also for posting "on rest days I do yoga", because I thought I was being told to REST! I developed some floor exercises when I had ME, and if my body feels like it, I will do those. Congratulations on getting there; you deserve to celebrate!!
