Just a quick question - which shorts do people like? I am using some Ron Hill ones, and I sometimes find that they rub a little twixt my legs. I am also a cyclist, so my thighs are perhaps slightly larger than some other runners, but they are by no means big.
I could go for lycra, but at my advanced years (midish 50s) and with my dislike for snug clothing... maybe not. Lycra cycling clothing is bad enough, but there there is little other choice.
Thanks.

Thanks. I have Googled Body Glide, and it seems to have some pretty good reviews. No, I haven't tried 2 in 1 shorts - I'm assuming these are the 'legging' type inner with a more traditional type shorts on the outside? Maybe I should - that or go in the depths of night with just my undies on! E Or, just run when it's colder and wear my faithful Ronhill Tracksters.
Thanks. They look like they may well work. I shall see if I can find a local shop; failing that, online. As it's forecast for a wet run tomorrow, I will manage without Body Glide for one more day, and then comfort will be all mine!!
Thanks for the reply, and for the recommendation. I shall pop into a Decathlon shop [I'm near one at the weekend] and see about trying some. the pocket at the front seems an excellent idea - my current shorts have one at the back which is less than ideal when running.I fear I am a Mamil when it comes to cycling. It is so practical and readily available, and with little other choice, I am 'forced' down that route. I could wear cords and tweeds, and buy a Pashley bike, but I will stick with my current ones for now.
I only ever run in basketball gear. Plethora of choices from multiple nba teams. Colours galore. Do I look ludicrous? Perhaps I do. Do I care? Nope, I do not. Why do I wear such stuff in my late fifties? Because the quality is exceptional, they are durable and hard wearing and nobody else out there is doing the same.
Hmmm, to me basketball implies height - I'm not exactly blessed in that area. I fear that basketball shorts would be so long on me that I would have to have them taken up! Thanks for the suggestion, and if I ever grow, I will try some.
I also have fantastic cycling thighs. I wear any old shorts but with long, lightweight anti chafing knickers underneath (almost cycle short length but lightweight and breathable). I found a lot of men's long trunks online while searching for mine, so they are out there. I've also spotted one or two men wearing similar.
They have also turned out to be very comfy under my work clothes for the cycle commute, stops my trouser seams rubbing in warm weather.
Thanks for the reply, and I had not heard of anti-chafing knickers until I saw your comment! I took a sneaky peek online and I have just learnt that I am naive when it comes to ladies under garments! After 31 years of wedded bliss, I am still learning...If I can get something that goes down my legs, so much the better. I may be brave and pop into my local M&S and take a look at them in the flesh - if I am really brave, I may treat myself to some! Let's face it, no one but me will know I am wearing them!!! Not even 'er indoors as I head out for my run at 5:30, leaving her in bed with a cup of tea waiting for her on the bedside cabinet.
Haha! I too have been blissfully unaware for 40-odd years, but I'm not going back! Mine are called skimmies from jockey, I think these would be a male equivalent jockey.co.uk/products/jocke...
Although I'm sure other brands do something similar.
Just don't buy ones with lace on the bottom!
Those two in one shorts look like they do the same job though.
I don't know - the lace trim may be quite fetching!!! Especially with the on/off beard. I shall take a look at these scamps, and then I will delete my browsing history, just in case 'er indoors see it😉. Mind you, I do have a T shirt that says, '' Pay no attention to my browsing history; I'm a writer, not a serial killer''.
Thanks. I too have some cycle shorts, but I find I get hot in them, and the chamois pad would make it uncomfortable... maybe I should also look at different [DHB] makes. I do also have some OMM running lycra shorts in L that I bought in a clearance sale, however, OMM's idea of large is slightly different to us newbie runners' idea! I bought L and I am a 34" waist but they would struggle to fit around one of my legs comfortably!! I suspect that most people who buy OMM are just a little slimmer than I am😔, or ever will be.
Thanks. Have you noticed that some people [not on here though] seem to think that if you are a cyclist or lifter etc, you will be a good runner too? I cycle and hill walk, which gives me fitness, but running uses different muscle groupings. I know that I had an advantage over some when I started, but not too much of one.Good luck with the lifting and stay safe.
Thanks. I will take a peek. So far I have used Ron Hill ones with no issues, and it has only been in the last few weeks that they have started to rub. Maybe it's the weather, or maybe it's down to something else; I simply don't know. There is no sign of wear and I haven't changed how I wash them - maybe my legs are just becoming a different shape and the shorts are catching. If all else fails I will have to resort to running at 2 in the morning in my 'knickers', ala 'if you forget your PE kit, you will do it in your vest and knickers', as was said at my infant school! Those were the days!!!
Hi, I wear New Balance shorts I bought from m and m direct as I had the same issue. I have pair with full inner shorts (like cycling shorts) and a pair with’briefs’ neither rub.
Thanks. Personal recommendations are always worth so much more than 'reviews'. I know of NB, but I have no experience of them. Maybe it's time I spread my wings...
