Shin splints..

Hi,

Does anyone else suffer with this?

I’m on W8R3 and as much as it isn’t as bad as in the early days I still have a moderate amount of pain.

I always leave at least 1-2 days between runs to allow rest but it doesn’t seem to make much difference.

I’ve read rest is the only real treatment but don’t want to stop for a longer period than a few days as think this will mess up my routine & fitness level.

Will this always be an issue or does it get better?

Ps I’ve tried compression sleeves which I don’t think made much difference

Hi Louise,

I also suffered with painful shins up to around week 7. Gradually the pain eased and now ive just started Week 9 without too many issues. Maybe it is just a "time" thing as your body build up to getting used to running?

Keep up the good work. Not long to go for you now. Well done.

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

Shin splints are common and primarily caused by the impact of running on legs that are not used to it, so follow the advice in the guide on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
