Dear C25Kers, I've had a really good time so far with the program so far! It has taught me how to pace myself whereas before I could barely ever manage a run more than 10 minutes long without a patient friend reminding me to slow down. Thank you to Laura for being a virtual version of that friend...
So far on weekdays I've been running in my lunch break, because I start work before the sun rises and don't finish til after it sets - but now I'm half way through week 7, I realise I am going to start to struggle with fitting my run and shower into my lunch break as the timings get longer.
How have other C25Kers faced this dilemma down? Running in the dark with a head torch is an option I suppose, but I would miss the chance to enjoy nature, and in this damp muddy weather I would be worried about slipping over. Just the other day I had to cut a run short to help out an old gent who'd fallen down on the pavement even though he was keeping to a respectable walking pace.
Looking forward to when the days start getting longer again, and wishing you all happy running in the meantime!

ennkaybea the headtorch and an evening run is your best option 👍 Hi-viz clothing always a good option, and lastly and very important pick that route, get familiar if you're going to run it in the dark 💪
I suppose I ought to scout out some nice quiet side streets instead of running around a big unlit muddy park. It will make me appreciate it when sunset starts getting later in the day again at least. Next monday is the shortest day of the year apparently...
Actually, although the 21st is the shortest day, sunset starts to get later again from about the 12th in the UK, so hold tight - we're already on the path to longer evenings!
ennkaybea do be careful, No, not quite streets, you are safer on busy streets, or run in the open where lots of people are around. A last resort may be to join a gym and use the tread mill. Good luck
I don't know about running faster - you're doing a set amount of time so running faster doesn't make the time go any quicker?! But I agree with lmc50 that an evening run is probably your best bet, I used to run after work in the dark and it's actually not that bad, it can even be quite pretty.
I'll give it a go! I feel a bit wary of it because a couple different friends managed to injure themselves with their night running recently. That might just be the law of averages saying if all your runs are evening runs, that's when you're gonna get hurt - but I will probably adapt my route to be somewhere with street lights etc instead of my nice but muddy local park.
Yeah there's no harm in trying and see if it suits you. I had to run down lighted streets because my park shuts at 5pm, it's quite nice to run a different route.
I'm now doing runs that keep me out for an hour or more (40 mins running, and 20 mins of warm up/cool down walks). Thankfully I have flexitime and can choose any time between noon and 2pm to have "lunch" break, as long as I do enough hours in a week.
Even so, I've had to do some early evening runs with hi-vis and a head torch. I've vowed to do some dawn runs, but the duvet gremlins have grabbed me every time.
