I'm now on week 6 and repeating to be more comfortable with the longer runs, I'm conscious that at my current rate of progress, I'm not going to be able to reach 5k in the time 9 weeks is up. I'm around 3.5k now at the end of the run, week 6. So.....if I finish week 9 (as per the plan etc) but undershoot the 5k, do I just increase the time to reach 5k.... Should be about 50 -60 mins... To qualify for "Graduation".? After all, it's "couch to 5k", .....(that's the clue???). A head's up please!!!
Is it 5 k or week 9 run 3???: I'm now on week... - Couch to 5K
Is it 5 k or week 9 run 3???
No. It's simply 30 mins ! 5k comes after. Sometimes not long after, sometimes relatively quickly. Depends on the person.
Couch to 30 minutes non stop jogging is probably not snappy enough. I graduated running just over 3.5K in 30 minutes. I probably won't get to 5 k in late January and it will be over 40 minutes. My longest has been 4k in around 35 minutes. I will get faster eventually. We are al different and start from a different fitness baseline. But 30 minutes jogging is more than those people on the couch.
Only a small proportion of graduates from this forum who responded to a poll, managed 5k in 30 minutes by graduation healthunlocked.com/couchto5....
Graduation requirements are that you complete three thirty minute runs, regardless of distance.
You are doing great.
This variant of C25K is definitely 30 minutes. Reaching 5km in that time is not required.
Don’t worry BibaBear! The plan is called Couch to 5k but the intent is to run nonstop for 30 minutes- but that doesn’t sound quite so catchy does it! A large percentage of graduates don’t get to 5k in 30 minutes- I still can’t do it in that time and I graduated over a year ago! 5k will come in time, in the meantime concentrate on graduation after the third run of 30 minutes in week 9. You then do a few weeks consolidating that and then the world’s yours!
Thanks... I am going to look for a 5k event sometime in the future ( not too far off!!!) And enter....and see how I go... Jog/walk etc.
Try parkrun when it returns - you can run, walk or a mixture of both. It’s not a race so there’s no pressure and it’s a friendly place to start!
Yes, I live in Guernsey so we have no big restrictions on "stuff" so I think there'll be something soon, in the spring perhaps! It's a glorious sunny day today so I will go out and enjoy that...and see if I can keep going a bit longer than the end of the week 6, run 3.... Even a couple of mins. Some folk are still swimming daily, in just a cozzie, ummmm.
🥶 But they say it's warmer in than out, when it's windy... with the wind chill.
