17th Consolidation Run

I did another 35 minute run today. Two of my split times were faster than Friday but the overall run was slower according to my FitBit (though the NRC app says I covered more ground to nearly 4.5k). I think I’ll go by the FitBit as it’s been accurate thus far. My first and fourth leg (of 5) were marginally faster but overall I only covered 4.24k as supposed to 4.31k on Friday.

So the stats bear out that the run was harder today but only marginally. Considering this was only my second 35 minute run, I’ll take that. My head started telling me in the first 10 mins that it was going to be more difficult today but I wasn’t in any danger of bailing out. I got through the first 10 without too much stress (though I did notice the slight incline onto the Heath a little more today) and by the time I hit 15 mins on the Heath I wasn’t feeling too bad though I was aware my breathing was slightly heavier.

I hit 20 mins after my descent from the Heath towards Gospel Oak station. The run towards Kentish Town and the slight incline took it out of my legs a little bit, but once I got over the hump it was all on a downward slope and despite feeling extra sluggish I knew I was going to make it.

By the time Coach Bennett told me I had 12 and a half minutes to go, I once again marvelled and how his jabbering about hot weather running had taken my mind off my own discomfort and before I knew it there were just 8 minutes left.

I traversed Prince Of Wales Road with just under 5 minutes to go and I was a bit lumbering but knew I was going to get to the end and in fact I ran a little further past the previous finish line. I guess I ran the Heath part a little faster today or maybe I didn’t cover quite as much ground, but I don’t want to get too hung up on time and distances. It’s enough to know at the moment that I’m managing 35 minutes and still feeling relatively comfortable doing so. Onwards and upwards.

Great work David, I think consistency is the key, not missing any days, rather than trying to exceed past records. "Lumbering" is how I describe all of my run.. but at least we're doing it!

Absolutely Lucas. Running every two days is what is making it enjoyable.

Onwards is easy. Upwards is the hard bit. 👍
