Consolidation R5. A run of two halves....

Well after Weds 5k I was ready for the same challenge. My body thought otherwise !

Tried to start off slow to make sure I had enough in the tank. After 21 mins, where I had to stop to go through a gate and stile, I resumed running again but my calves were like lead.. or a tight elastic band. No idea why, I drank lots over the time, stretched and rolled too. Anyhow, I listened to my body and then decided to walk the rest of the way back, was actually quite nice, I took in the scenery more, we lost the pooch at one point 😱.

I did squeeze in a couple of short sprints too, so probably did way over 3k of actual running. Some days just don’t go the way you want, but the main thing is I got off the couch today so that will do for me 🏃‍♀️😃

That was a reasonable run/walk for you today JulesL69, that flooding in the photograph is similar to part of my 5K (not) parkrun route, to avoid it I run on a slightly different route.

Thanks Al, did about 49 mins in total but only tracked the non stop 21min run. Felt good getting out, just annoyed with how my legs felt.

Had a nice bath with some Epsom salts in and now rehydrating with plenty of water, started raining just so avoided that one !

The picture doesn’t show it properly,

it’s a stream. There is a little bridge to the right so you avoid it unless you are a dog who loves puddles !

Thanks. You see, not a great run, we all have them. You’re not alone DL

I did about 50 mins of activity in total and was off the couch 😃.

That’s great Jules. You are right, any activity is better than none. 50 minutes is awesome!

Relieved to hear you didn’t have to run through that huge puddle 😬

As you told me ☺️ we all have better runs than others but getting out is better than not. Still a good run/walk time 👍

So stressful to loose the pooch 😳even for a minute, as bad as losing sight of your child in a shop 😱

Enjoy your week. I’m sure your next one will be better 🏃‍♀️😊

Thanks Cazza, yes no puddles for us but the pooch loves them. She’s a working dog and there are so many pheasants etc around at the moment so she goes off following the scent.

Have a great week too , I might try a gentle jog later, without the pooch 😂

More and more I’m thinking that really ‘consolidation’ is (certainly for me) more about consolidating a running ‘habit’ as much as consolidating running for 30 minutes or for 5k.

Absolutely fine if you can do that too of course 👌😃

The way the weather is just now I’m having periods of running every other day or indeed waiting 5 days to next run.

I think this has been good for me 👍 I have found that I don’t put pressure on myself and don’t get stressed because I ‘should’ve ‘ had a run today but didn’t .

Also even though I've had a couple of long gaps I’ve still eventually gone on another run and not just stopped doing it .

( I have very resilient little gremlin in the back of my mind that keeps asking ‘ am I really going to keep this up 🤔🤔😈 )

So the measure of success is that you went out for another run 👏👏

And when we were struggling with those 90 second or 3 minute runs the thought of us being able to run for 20 minutes was unbelievable ..... 😱😂😂

Hi.. yes, I agree it's about getting into the habit. I think after graduating its easy to fall out of the routine.

I have to make more of a concerted effort whereas before the programme gave you routine. Now we are let loose so to speak.

I haven't seen recent posts of people I graduated with either, perhaps they are having a break? I agree with you any run / walk we do is better than sitting back on that couch, otherwise what was all the 9 /10 weeks for? It doesn't matter if its once/ twice or three times (which I mostly did during the programme) as long as we keep running 😊🏃‍♀️

Yes, a few graduates missing in action 😕 hopefully will be back on at some point .

I’m forever grateful I started when I did , there’s no doubt the recent weather hasn’t been helpful ☔️☔️

I have two runs not posted yet , must get around to that 🙄

I should have been out yesterday but things got in the way and then the rain came .

The two runs were pretty similar same time, same distance and yet one I liked and one I didn’t 😂🤷🏼‍♀️😂 that’s just how it is I think .

I do think things are naturally but slowly improving though , which I’m happy with . If progress continues fine , but I’m not chasing it , I am really pleased I can just ‘go out a run’ 🙂

I still find it strange how each runs are different. I had it in my head that when I was able to run for a length of time without huffing and puffing I would just skip out of the door, run and admire the scenery with a smug look on my face. Ha ha... how wrong I was !

I am always happy when I have finished, another sense of achievement and feel healthier for doing it. That’s one thing I think we all can relate to, the runners high at the end of a run. ☺️
