How does it work?

I am trying to figure out how the Couch to 5K works. Do I simply download the app and the app will guide me week by week? I've been starting to walk 20mins a day in preparation for this challenge.

Hi, in a word , YES 😁

You can have your own music playing in the background also if you want !

It quietens when the coach speaks to you !

Your coach will tell you when to run and when to walk and encourage you throughout the runs .

Enjoy 😁👍

Welcome to the forum and well done on your decision, you won't regret it.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Download the BBC c25k app, it simply outlines everything you need to do and will even talk you through the activity. I chose Michael Johnson as my mentor, but there are a few to choose from. I was a complete couch potato, but I finished this programme and now run regularly and even enjoy it. Keep me posted on your progress and good luck 😉

Just to add that if for any reason you can't download the app, you can download the NHS Couch to 5k podcasts instead, though those don't give you any choice of coach or music. Happy running!

Pretty much! It may not tell you to run slowly, it may not be able to magically give you the determination to push to the finish line, it may not be able to make you actually press start.... but in all other ways the app is brilliant. Trust the plan... bring your own determination (or stubbornness) and read the FAQ that IannodaTruffe posted. You can do this... enjoy your journey.
