An anecdote that I was meaning to include in my write up but forgot.

There is an incline on my route. I was approaching it and saw a dad and small child, maybe 3 or 4 years old, walking ahead of me. Ok, I thought, just focus on the incline then give them a decent, socially distanced, wide berth. I reached them, hopped onto the road to go round them and panted my uphill version of a cheery greeting at them.

The child screamed. A proper, full throated, no concession scream of what I can only assume was terror. The whole street will have heard it. Poor little guy.

Not good for the ego but another laugh out loud moment to add to the growing list!
