Week 1 Run 4 ...

So I graduated C25K last year and have since progressed through 10k and up to HM. But now my opportunity to run has reduced because I'm taking on the childcare role while my wife has decided she wants to have a crack at C25K.

This is brilliant news as she is anti-exercise pro-eating (like many of us) so I'm supporting and encouraging her as best as I can to keep going as she is focusing her attention on losing weight and getting healthy.

She's still running week one as she hasn't yet managed to completly run all the sections. She's improving, but still struggling.

How do I best encourage her not to give up when she's starting to feel like she can't do it? How many times should she keep doing the same week 1 run before moving on to week two and feeling like she's progressing?

Get her to post on the forum and we'll help! I think the rule is as long as you can do all the run intervals no matter how slowly you can move on to the next run, and if she's struggling take it slower. I imagine you will help her sort out trainers and other kit but don't neglect a good sports bra!

Just tell her to slow it down.. and then slow it some more... until she can run those run sections comfortably. When I started some of my runs were slower than my walks 🤣🤣. I bet she’s trying to “ manrun” instead of gentle jog

Ahh I just read this, having clicked a couple of links!.

Is she still doing it?

It's hard being the unfit one in the team. My husband has been running for years he's part Gazelle.

When I started this I didn't tell him, didn't want his input, or to feel that my feeble efforts were shocking compared to his.

I would suggest that your wife quietly does this on her own timetable, without even letting you know where she's up to.

Maybe join the forum as an individual and talk to us, not you.

My husband occasionally mentions my running, usually when he's quietly horrified by my leggings!😅🤣.

When he does mention it, it's a casual enquiry such as where did you go, or did you see anything interesting. I'll say I just 5km, he'll say that's far enough...then he'll go off for 12 miles 🤣🤣, note he runs in miles I run in km!!

Her health kick is still in progress. She's really pleased to have come down 2 dress sizes but a bit frustrated that the scales haven't moved much.

She is definitely looking and feeling better for it, even if the weight hasn't changed much.

As for the running, she stopped when the clocks changed. She doesn't want to run in the dark so is finding the time to get out very challenging. However, she is really determined to get back to the running so I'm trying to see if I can find some pennies for a treadmill. It's not likely unfortunately, as not only are they more expensive than I expected, but we don't really have the space in the house for it.

This is the longest health kick / diet she has ever done (I think 4 weeks is her previous record) so I'm really proud of her determination and commitment to getting healthy . I just wish we were heading into the hot sunny long summer days, and anot in the middle of a cold grey wet winter .

Is she able to get out in the daylight at weekends?

We try.

It's been a bit of a challenge recently because of my work pattern, but we have had a few weekends where we go out as a family, Mrs Me heads off for her run while I take the three Mini-Mes and Dog for a walk

They do foldable ones I believe. Might be worth seeing what's on Ebay. There's a lot of people (my sister included) who get one and only use them for a few weeks. Personally I prefer running in the cooler months 🥵Anyway it sounds like your wife is having a good go at fitness, the clocks will be changing again before you know it, less than 4 weeks to the shortest day 😊

I am concerned that a treadmill will spend more time in storage than in use.

When single, she had an exercise bike. But in reality, it was a fancy clothes horse 🤣

As to the leggings, he's probably jealous. 😉
