Try & try again

W5R3......First tried this a couple of weeks ago....and it was too much. Followed the advice & did all of W5 again. Still couldn't get past 12 mins of R3....had to walk for about 10 secs, then run again for a couple of mins...walk for about 10 secs, etc & repeat until I got to 20 mins. So this week, I thought I'd forget doing the whole week & just keep trying for 20 mins non-stop. Monday.....still couldn't do it.... still had to take two 10 sec walks at about min 14 & min 18.

But today.....did the whole 20 mins non-stop! Chuffed to bits. It's 90 mins since I finished & I'm still sweating. Going to do the same run on Friday to reinforce it, then on to W6.

Up until now, I've been taking a 5 min drive to a secluded spot in the country then run. W6, I'll be running from home with confidence!

BTW, I'm overweight, eat a crap diet & smoke (WTF!)

Brilliant! So glad you persisted! Good idea to consolidate. Make sure you take W6 slowly too - the intervals are back and it’s so tempting to go too fast. But for now, time to relax and enjoy your W5R3 success!! 🏆

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Can you speak aloud, clear, ungasping sentences as you run?.........if not, you are going too fast.

Slowing down to the recommended easy conversational pace makes it more achievable and for most, more enjoyable.

Enjoy your journey.
