W3R3 - The Tide Is High

Well, that’s it. I’ve reached the end of Week 3 and it went as well as could considering how drained I’ve been lately.

I can’t help being a little worried as my partner has been a bit unwell since yesterday and it looks like the kids might be catching whatever it is too. I’m hoping it’s just an everyday virus, rather than THE virus, but I guess time will tell.

As for me? I’ve been getting a few hot flushes but when I take my temperature it’s normal. Still, as long as I’m capable of finishing a run, I won’t be *too* concerned, just my default state of a little bit concerned.

Despite that, it’s been a pretty productive day. While we officially moved into this house a few weeks ago, we’re still not completely unpacked because there’s a lot of stuff, less space to put it than in the old house and even less free time around work and kids to actually work on it.

Well I’d be lying if I said I unpacked anything else but I had a very satisfying afternoon building Ikea furniture for the kids rooms so those ones are at least almost complete. However we now have a mountain of cardboard to get rid of because they really love to overpackage those things.

What I did not achieve though was mowing the lawn, the furniture took longer than planned so I didn’t get to finish the lawn as planned, which means I still have to run through a section of long grass. I’m getting used to it though, I’ll probably miss it when it’s gone.

Weirdly enough there is a downside to running through long grass in the dark and luckily I discovered it early on during the warmup walk. After a few laps of the garden I noticed that something smelled and I kept smelling it at the same point so I put my phone light on and shined it at the ground. Sure enough, there was a little present from the cat who had apparently gotten bored of her littler tray. Somehow I’d managed to avoid it each time but I adjusted my route accordingly.

So tonight I went with Blondie once again, since they’re really working for me, and headed out for my night run. It was a little difficult getting going and I’ve noticed this in the last few runs. I always seem to need a bit of time to get going an an awkward start leads to a more comfortable second half. This may change when I get to the 25 minute run at the end of Week 6. The first time I tried that I really struggled and felt awful after it.

So the warm up run was fine, despite the cat poo, and the first 90 seconds was also fine but hardly filled me with confidence. Fortunately something clicked (not literally) during that halfway walk and all of a sudden I was inspired to kick this up to a higher gear, helped in no small part by One Way or Another. That song really has a great beat to run to and it was timed so perfectly to give me the second wind I desperately needed.

So the next 90 second run began and I was off, but carefully. I didn’t speed up as such but I did feel the running flow a bit more naturally.

The next walk was very welcome and set me up for a decent finish. I like the fact that on this run you get a minute warning before the end. I didn’t quite have it in me to sprint but I did pick up the pace a bit, it was the end of the week after all so I wanted to do something and a slightly faster run seemed to do it.

I’m not sure how I feel about Week 4 yet though, this one was a little bit of a struggle and while it did get better I didn’t end the week as comfortable with it as I would like to be.

Still I won’t know for sure until I try it so we’ll just have to wait until Tuesday to see what happens.

Sorry to do this but this is literally my favourite quote of all time. I don't know if your handle is related to this or not.

"No, no, no. I feel it's like, it's more like going, going to a national park or something, and there's... you know, they preserve the moose. And that's my childhood up there on stage is that moose, you know."

"So when you're playing you feel like a preserved moose on stage?"

"Yeah."

I like to run to Blondie too, especially Atomic, always good when that comes up on Shuffle.

Well done for keeping to the programme, you sound as if you have a lot on at the moment! :)

I love it, I’m tempted to write a long rambling article about which songs are best to run to.

Thanks, it’s definitely one to stick to and I’m always disappointed if I don’t do it. Life is busy busy busy but that’s the lockdown life. Who had the genius idea of moving house during all this???
