Just got back in from W1R2, although actually mt 3rd this week, that was hard but pushed through and amazingly for some one with reactive arthritis I have no aches and niggles. Why you may ask? My running shoes! Went to Whirlwind Sports in Helston yesterday having booked a free gait analysis. It was so interested and I now understand how the supination in my left foot/leg/ankle, which I wasn't previously aware of, affected my whole body. The analysis took the best part of an hour, even though the first shoes I was given to try on were so comfortable and showed dramatic correction on the video analysis, were the ones I took away with me. Craig gave me lots of other shoes to try on, some cheaper some more expensive, but the first pair were perfect.
As I walked away, happy (uh) that I had just parted with £120 Craig said " You doing it the right way round you know. Usually people come in once they have aches and pains in their knees, ankles and elsewhere because they have been running in their fashion trainers! You have come in for proper running shoes at the start of your journey and that should prevent a lot of injuries up the line"
So the moral of the story, help yourself by getting your gait analysed sooner rather than later. I have mentioned the shop name and location because they offer an excellent free service, but you will notice that I haven't stated which shoes I bought, i.e. I am not writing this as advertising copy but rather to help local runners. If you are not lucky enough to live in Cornwall , get on the internet and find a sports shop near you that offers gait analysis. You will find it so beneficial I am sure.
Happy running Dave
