Overcoming Shin Splints

Hi, new to this site, started last week and completed the first week. First 2 runs were fine, but after the third I started to get some pain in my lower legs (on the inside of each leg) never thought anything of it as I am a complete beginner so just put it down to the muscles not being used to it. Started week 2 today and had to stop half way because the pain was too much, legs completely stiffened up. Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone have any tips on what to do next regarding whether to run through the pain or taking time out etc. I have been stretching after every run too.

Thanks!

Welcome. Are you going slow enough, pace is key with this. Also, make sure you drink plenty of water each day 😊

I did slow it down after the first run but maybe not enough, will take this on board, thanks!

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.
