Addition on board... And now I have a runnning dilemma!

I started my fitness journey after suffering a miscarriage and two family tragedies at the beginning of the year. It was my way of regaining some control when all seemed to be melting away... And it really has helped uplift my outlook on life in spite of everything that has happened this year (pandemic included!)

I have just found out I'm expecting again! I'm around 5 weeks. I was about to move on to week seven of the programme and am still so keen to keep going. I already think ive felt less nauseous and exhausted than before and I'm putting it down to running - but it may be too early to make that assessment!

All advice suggests if you were doing it before then pregnancy shouldn't stop you maintaining your fitness routine. Which makes me think I'll just maintain week 7 runs while I'm still able. There are a lot of conflicting ideas about heart rates out there too... 🤔

Any advice or experience here? I appreciate I will speak to a midwife as soon as possible.. I just dont want to lose momentum in the interim!

Lots of running positive runnnig vibes xxx

Congratulations on your pregnancy and yes the best person to speak to about running while pregnant may be your doctor or midwife. Thought this video might help😊😊

Firstly many congratulations on your pregnancy.

I'm not sure it's appropriate for anyone here to offer advice as we simply aren't qualified to do so.

Are you able to book a telephone consultation with a midwife via your GP so that you can get advice from a medical professional that meets your individual circumstances? Many are offering consultations by telephone or even video call. As well as offering you guidance and advice hopefully they can reassure you that it's safe to continue the programme and to enjoy running throughout your pregnancy.

Good luck, stay safe and keep well.

Completely unable to comment on running while pregnant and as you mentioned your midwife/doctor would know best. Maybe you could get a phone appointment? Could be quicker?

I also suffered a miscarriage earlier this year and couch to 5K definitely has had a hand in feeling more in control of my body, and helping stabilise my mental health. I feel like running has made me healthier for next time and I have been thinking about what I will do when the time comes again. So understand your concerns completely, I am sure you will at least be able to do some lovely walks.

I wish you all the best in your pregnancy and hope you can keep up your running in whatever form is best for you.

Stay safe and well.
