3 stents, unfit , overweight, 61

I had 3 stents fitted a year or so ago.

I am male, 61, unfit and overweight at 181 pounds, according to my BMI.

Also I have to take beta blockers and statins amongst other meds

I did the first of the "Cto5K" runs but found I couldn't complete the last 2 or 3 of the 60 second running sections.

I completed the 35 minutes but the next day I was so stiff I decided to do some gardening instead.

(Having done no exercise for years).

The following day I was too stiff to run so have postponed the training.

Considering building up by walking training first.

Feel such a fraud.

Any advice?

Welcome to the forum and well done on making a start.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on pacing, minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

You were probably pushing too hard, however you do need to be able to walk briskly for 30 minutes before you attempt running.

Enjoy your journey.

I did c25k at 60, one of the best things I ever did. Am currently redoing c25k due to long layoff, which I'll complete today..

181lb equates to just under 13st, there have been some come on here that are obese, quite a lot heavier than you and been successful..

I would hope you have the green light from your doctor to excercise moderately, but yes you would be wise to start with walking training first.

Keep at it,but you must walk before you can run..

read the the link that IT has sent over for essential info for starting c25k..

I am also 61 and overweight The link sent by IT is full of useful stuff. I found doing the stretches after running eased any subsequent aches and pains. Also check Japanese slow running on you tube. Taking it really slowly can help you complete the runs

Good luck and keep at it.
