Technology advances and running.....

Just me again 🤦🏻‍♂️

So I was just wondering in what ways technology has helped with running.

Obviously smartphones and watches are a big improvement and are becoming more widely available.

Also the clothes people wear seem to not only look better but be designed with technology in mind.

Light weight, man made materials not heavy things that get unbearable when sweaty🤢.

Lycra and it’s like seems to be a must. Ladies clothes seem to be better in that department then men’s when it comes to colourfulness.

Trainers must be better. My dad used to run and I’m sure my trainers for one are much lighter.

Any more ideas?

Thanks all.

Amen to that! Those things are great! I'll also add GPS watches with heart rate tracking too.

Oh I’ve heard about those. Thought about them for cycling. Do they give off excess noise?

Not sure I know what what you mean.... I like them because they sit next to your ear rather than in it - I always got sore ears no matter how small the rubber grommetty thing. And you can hear ambient noise around you as long as the volume is not blasting, so are safer when out and about. I’m not an expert by any means btw 😜

That’s what I meant. I was thinking about some for cycling maybe.

I think if you were sat next to someone on a bus they might hear a bit of something but otherwise no you can’t hear them. Best running aid I have.

I'd agree with that - a little bit of sound leakage but not that much. Fidelity is not as good as in-ear but you don't notice it when you're exercising.

Oh. They sound like a good investment. Any suggestions on make?

Aftershokz trekz air. Unless you swim then you can get the fully waterproof ones (the air ones are fine in the rain it’s just the new ones have a magnetic charger so they are fully waterproof). The range on them is very good, battery life is brilliant and they work with the iPhone too so you can take and make calls, send messages in fact you just press the side button and say “hey Siri” and you can do anything tbh. The cheapest place online is winstanley bikes.

Oh and they sit nicely under a hat / helmet. I sound like I work for them. I don’t! Just one piece of kit that is absolutely outstanding 👍🏽

I have those on my secret running wishlist. I say secret because whatever I buy, there's always something else. The list never gets any shorter!

Well we’re all like that with things aren’t we, I’m constantly thinking oh that would be good and that and that 😂

I bought these just after Christmas at a sale price of £21. They’re full price now but still a bargain imo:

See link below to a bargain pair - I’ve used them every run since I got them and they’re great 😁

Just had a look at them. They seem like a great price. Will have to get some bought for when I get out again.

Thanks for tip. I need some of these but don’t have a big budget.

Totally totally agree with this!! My son bought me a pair for my birthday as I find the earbuds of most earphones hurt my ears!

But these bone conductors not only allow me to listen to music or whatever but also allow me to participate in life around me as I hear everything now!!

Love love love them!!

Agree with all above. Have a look on Lucy Locket Loves website as they have bright leggings which I have seen men wearing.

Not sure I’d want to stand out that much. 🤷🏻‍♂️ maybe it’s will help with the running?! 😂

Defo need hi viz gear if you run after dark (or before light) anywhere, especially near roads. As a country driver I get really anxious about walkers, runners or cyclists who apparently have no idea they are practically invisible from inside a car. 😨

So true! Some silly people you see out on bikes without a helmet or any form of lights when it’s getting dark. So dangerous!

Another item that occurred to me this morning to add to the list - running head-light / chest-light. I've seen quite a few people running with those chest-strap LED lights and they seem to really light up the route and make them very visible.

Oh yes! I do have a head torch. It’s a must for early morning winter runs.

You absolutely get when you pay for. If it means your going to be more comfortable it’s worth it in my eyes.

So true. And as the distances increase then chances of chafing- ugh. The worst! Decathlon great for food value good quality gear for all aspects of running.

RunFatBoySlim profile image
RunFatBoySlim in reply to Joster

I’ve purchased Glide to help with any possible chafing. Seems to work well. There’s nothing worse than going for a run and being uncomfortable
