I completed couch to 5k last year and took part in park runs and a race4life, then I stopped, life got in the way and I became lazy.

Well I've started again I'm up to week 2 run 3. I'm doing it on the treadmill for now as I dont like running in the dark, i leave for work at 6am and dont get home till 5.30pm. I'm struggling to find the energy to run after a long day at work has anyone got any advice on how to stay motivated?

Morning Maisiemoo, is running while at work an option? I know a number of people find exercise midday energising. Maybe arrange to go for a run with a friend in the evening might help with the motivation and having a light snack before your run could help with your energy levels. Whatever you do keep going. Those light days are not too far away.

Morning Coffee1st, running at work isn't an option as I dont really get a break and no shower facilities.

Thanks for the idea of running with a friend I shall certainly ask. I never thought of a snack beforehand. Thanks for the advice. Roll on spring .

Welcome back and well done... hang on in there... and know the days are getting lighter and longer...:)

My choice would always be, when the mornings are lighter.. get out there.. early. Yes.. I know you leave for work at 6...run at 5 :) Great start to your day...

But if that is too much. then set your stuff out.. do your job snatch a drink and run as soon as you get home... Just get into the pattern. and see how quickly you feel amazing!

Also... weekend runs... ?

Hi Oldfloss,

Thanks for the advice, I will definitely get out when the mornings get lighter, that's what I did last year I have much more energy in the morning.

You'll get there...every day...a little closer x

Morning Maisemoo glad to see you back! Advice? Just keep doing what your doing with your running. You could maybe have virtual running days, with other runners here on the forum. I used to do that. If I knew that some one was willing to virtually run with me on a said day for example, it would spur me on to get out there and run. I wouldn’t want to let them down.

Now I just run because I enjoy it. There doesn’t have to be an incentive to make me get out there and run.

I also run on my treadmill too (when the weather is really bad )so that’s good a-swell. It’s still running.

However if you feel you need a virtual running buddy I’ll happily run with you . It would have to be in the daylight though as I don’t run in the dark nights. The reason is that I live out in the sticks and there is no street lights, plenty of cows etc. I’d probably get lost🤣🤣🤣🏃‍♀️🐄🐄🐄

I’m starting again too due to illness over winter and am at same stage as you. I’m motivating myself with thinking how much I enjoyed running in spring and summer last year along the Tarka Trail and I want to be able to at least run 5ks along there by Spring. I love seeing the changing seasons along the riverside and hedgerows.

Welcome back! 😀

One of my colleagues found it really helpful to change into running gear at work when the day ended, & go directly to her run before going home. She also made sure she was well hydrated & had a snack a couple of hours before. 😀
