Week 2-2 -calf’s hurt

Hi all,

I am about to run (plod) 1.5miles non stop but when I try to push a little further or change my route my legs go and I get cramps, shin pains and calf pain.

So I’d decided to do C25K in hope that the slow changes will help.

Yesterday I completed week 2 run 2. My calf’s were hurting on about run 5 but not so much I had to stop. In fact they were fine when I was running just hurt when I was walking. Then last night after my run my shins were a bit sore. I have iced and stretched. Planning to have 2 maybe 3 rest days now before I run again.

Any suggestions on why this keeps happening? And what I can do to help prevent it?

Head over to Strength and Flex forum..exercise on there for calves and everything else.

All this running is new..your body wonders what is happening. Normal aches and pains may be expected. With regular strength and stamina work on some of your rest days ..things should ease..

Are you following the advice in the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... on minimising impact, hydration, knee strengthening exercises and stretching immediately after every run?

Stretching immediately after every run, nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/h... while muscles are still warm and supple, pulls out contractions, avoiding carrying tensions into the next run and also improves recovery by improving blood flow.
