So today on my fourth run I made the classic mistake of ‘I’m feeling good so I’m going to run a bit faster ‘ . Cue that lovely feeling of being on the verge of throwing up, which I did think was mildly amusing given I had only done 3x 90 second reps, hardly a triathlon!! Needless to say I slowed right down and got myself back under control, albeit with aching glutes and a big red face 🥵

It takes a run like that to realise why everyone on this forum is always telling you to slow down! The important thing is you recovered and finished, well done you!

We all prefer to learn the hard way 🤣

In general, when you go longer it’s good to go slower. Sure, on race day, you may go fast and long... but race days are only occasional, and for much later on the journey. One marathon coach I read about spends the first six weeks or so slowing established runners down... the results of this are marathon runners demolishing their PB at the end of the training. Slow down to speed up really is the best way. If it works for them, it works doubly for new runners.

Engaging the glutes is great though... good session, even if harder than it needed to be!
