Knock to my confidence

Happy Saturday everyone!

In a week’s time my mum and I are running our first 5K. I was feeling pretty confident as our runs were going well and the end of the programme was going to exactly coincide with this event.

However I’ve been unwell for the past week and barely been able to run for 5 minutes at a time. I’m getting really worried now and will be attempting another 28 minute run tomorrow morning.

Has anyone else been through this? I’ve been so unbelievably tired and I’m really hoping that it goes soon so I can get back on track for next weekend.

I’m sure that’s not true, I’m sure you’re doing great as well! I skipped my run on Friday to rest so we shall see how tomorrow goes, thank you though xx

Firstly 5km events are called the fun run of events because they are easy going and for new runners. If you can’t run the whole course don’t worry, just transition into a walk when you are ready or walk the whole way and finish that way. You still will of done 5km. On your first event you should never go out to race anyone else. It sounds like you have a pretty nasty bug or do you get hay fever?. That floors me when it kicks in and I have to use a spray to make myself feel better. No event is worth pushing yourself beyond what your body is capable of, the damage you can do is immense. I know deep down that is not what you want to hear and I sympathise with you, I can imagine how you are feeling but make an honest decision near the time and stick with it. If your well enough run, or walk and if you really are not up for it don’t do it. I hope you feel better soon. Rfc x

I’ve had both, I suffer quite badly with allergies and then I’ve had a cold on top of that. I’m hoping I’ll feel better and then I can just see how I do. I feel like once I’m there with everyone cheering I’ll have a great time x
