I've been looking forward to this moment for months and here it is, 3 weeks earlier than planned.
I'm overweight! Just overweight... not obese or morbidly obese... just overweight! And I feel as light as air.
When I started on this amazing journey, my BMI was, quite literally, off the chart. If I looked to see what weight I was "supposed" to be, it was so demotivating because I simply could not see a realistic way to achieve that and actually live a fulfilling life. Then along came running, with its little sweat band and hydration belt and day-glo shoes, with a whole community of amazing, supportive people in tow.
I love a good milestone (as my regular readers will know, I set lots of them!). But this one has been on the plan right from the start, lurking in the corner. Well off it toddles into my past now, and good riddance to it!
Note: I know BMI isn't a great measure and there are other much more valid ways to judge your health.
EDIT: I thought I'd just have a look at what 48lbs looks like... it rather pleases me to say that it's a Basset Hound. I'm aiming for a German Shepherd so not too far to go now.

I hear you and feel you joy. I'm in exactly the same place. I'm now just above the healthy and pushing to get into that zone. It's a mindset and a target I've wanted from the start. Again I know now that this bmi isnt the best way but when you set a goal it's class just getting there.
Fabulous. That's quite something when you imagine having to carry a full grown Bassett Hound around! I hope to be merely overweight very soon, feeling inspired now! ☺
Love that! Am partial to a Bassett hound, but probably better not to be carrying it around all the time. Huge well done, being overweight is a great achievement! 🥳
A great feeling, eh? And your Basset is a great way of comparing it. My Airedale weighs 25kg. I haven’t quite lost his weight yet - a Chihuahua still to get to ideal BMI.
It’s a great feeling. I’ve lost 5 stone so far, with another 1.5 stone to go to get nicely into the healthy bmi range. My next milestone is to have lost the combined weight of my children (just under 5kg to go, as long as they don’t have a growth spurt anytime soon!). I can barely lift both of them together, so goodness knows how I was walking around with all that extra weight. Keep going
Oh well done, Pianism. 🎉👏🏼🎉 I feel I’ve really followed you along as we started near the same time, but your dedication is leaving me way in your dust! Love the Bassett. 😄
I don’t need the weight loss (lucky me), just the aerobic exercise and general lift & head space that running provides, but I’m in awe of all of you who are releasing those hounds as well. 👏🏼💕 You make a great VRB team to run with. Ever onwards!
And don’t forget the day-glow gear posts. I depend on those.... 🎉
I don't accept that I'm leaving you in the dust - we're both still here! Yes, it doesn't seem so long ago that we were comparing weeks (and injuries!)...
Oh too true. 🤣 In fact not long at all! Glad the injuries are in the past. 👏🏼 And the weeks in cold & dark have paid off in summer fun for us both. A good plan, it turns out. 👍😄 Happy running, Mr Overweight-soon-to-be-ideal-weight.
Congratulations on being overweight! Wonderful dedication and hard work. Sure BMI is just one factor in health... but you’re nailing the fitness, activity levels, cardio exercises etc too!
Cute Basset that you’ve rid yourself of! The German shepherd is on notice.
Hope to see you next weekend at Marple if you’re running there.
That would be a very decent time at this stage in your running. What time does it start? I’m at Marple juniors, first thing next Sunday but could have a drive over after.
Yeah... I’ll have a look and see how easy it will be to get near the finish line... but I’ll be leaving Marple as it starts, so don’t go sub 30 or anything 🤣
Congratulations! 🎉🎉🎉 I know what a struggle it is. I’m nearly on the cusp, and need to shed a few more pounds before I can join you. Mind you, I’ve just eaten four slices of delicious malt loaf, slathered in butter! 🤣🤣🤣
As I struggle to get my suitcase on the airport scale I wonder how I ever carried that weight around. One Weightwatchers leader would throw a 1/2 lb weight at people who were upset they'd only lost 1/2 lb. It was a great (and slightly violent) way of illustrating progress.
So made up for Pianism. It's a good feeling to have. I felt like that when my colleagues commented on my loosing weight. I thought the scales were lying to me. Made up for you.
Just catching up on posts I’ve missed, so a little late in the day but can I just add my congratulations on your weight loss Pianism. That’s brilliant and amazing. 👍
