I have just got to week 6 and been doing 25 min runs which I can't quite believe. However I now have painful knees. Is this to be expected as my body is in shock at exercising after so long being inactive or should I stop for a bit (I don't want to stop). Also might have a bit of housemaid's knee in one having done a lot of kneeling on a hard surface.
What should I do??

Housemaids knee, hmmm, new one to me, congratulations on getting to week 6 of C25K, I don't think that you should stop running, perhaps you could take a few extra days off running and drink plenty of water the day before you run the next run, week 7 are all 3/25 minute runs, run a little slower than you have been running recently, by running run 3 of week 6 you are now OFFICIALLY a RUNNER, well done.
Im a newb to this so i csn only speak from my rather painful experience. Take a few days off and have a look at patella knee supports. A combination of hot and cold applied to the area and paracetamol worked for me too.
I had pain in my right knee on the bones just below and either side of my knee, to say it was agony is an under statement. This was in week 3 and I felt so defeated but I took 10 days out but continued to walk for Work and bought a strap off Amazon.
So eager to get back into it I spoke to a friend whos been running for years, she has 157 park runs under her belt as well as 3 marathons and countless 10ks too so I trust her advice lol.
She joined me for a run and recommended I slowed down as I was running too fast too early and not warming up enough causing my hamstring to strain and put pressure on my IT band.
I was bobbing along too and putting excess pressure on my knees so I've changed my posture and run with my bum lower to the floor ( I'm 6ft 4 by the way)
She's a regular run companion of mine now and is helping so much it's unbelievable.
Like i say I'm a newb and in no way a medical professional and this has been my experience rest was the first thing I was told
I've two knee replaced but use the slow running technique and have just graduated with it and no pain. It is also called Niko Niko running,no doubt it was the deal breaker for me. Keep on going you'll get there
