Eager to get back ...

Well, it’s two and a half weeks since I took advice from this forum and rested my painful ankle. The bad news is that it’s not getting any better. I’ve done the usual recovery things and have seen the paramedic at our doctors but still painful to walk on. Not sure how to speed recovery up. I’ve binge watched Designated Survivor (no irony!) and can’t believe I’m hearing myself saying this, but can’t wait to get back running.

Will I need to go back to week 1? I had just completed week 3, very happily!

I am also on the injury couch (again!!), this time with extensor tendonitis in my foot, having just completed W9R1, which is really frustrating!!

I understand your longing to get back to the running, but please don't rush. Like you, I've received some great advice from fellow forum members about how to return to running post injury. I'm going to do some strength exercises once I'm healed up, then walking, then I'll try some runs. I think I will go back to week 3 and do one run from there first, if it's okay I'll then do a run from week 4, and so on, until I settle on a week that I then feel right in and then progress from there.

You could do similar. Go back to week 1and do one run, if you feel comfortable then do a run from week 2 next, and so on.

Good luck! I hope it works out for you and you are back up and running very soon!

Thanks for the advice and reassurance. Flipping frustrating, isn’t it. I stupidly ran in it in weeks 2 and 3, naively thinking it was just a beginners ache and would go away. I’m still trying to walk a fair bit - life demands it but not sure that’s helping or hindering. Ultimately I’m probably less fit now than before I started, so a little sad about that! Anyway, baby steps and it will improve.

Best of luck with your recovery. Week 9? That’s amazing.

I completely understand the frustration, and also the inability to find the time to completely rest up, even though I know I should - life is too hectic. However I am making a conscious effort to do RICE as often as possible and have delegated dog walks to my husband and teenage children. Unfortunately none of them are very good at decorating, and as I am in the middle of a big project that bit is still down to me. So, the house is going to be in chaos for a little longer than planned, but hey-ho!
