I failed 5 3 at around the 18 minutes mark a few weeks ago, I then had a bout of man flu and have just redone the week. Today was day 3 and I wasn't exactly looking forward to it but cardio-wise I actually found it OK!
Calves felt a bit tight towards the end but I kept a steady pace and never really felt out of breath - I wouldn't have believed I'd be able to run for so long without being absolutely exhausted 4 weeks ago :D.
To anyone looking at 5 3 in dread, just keep your pace steady and you'll blast it :).
Well done Spammachine on completing run 3 of week 5, that is a milestone run with C25K, onwards and upwards to runs 1 and 2 which have caught out some runners with their interval walks and runs, this is after the non-stop run of week 5.
Great run... but let’s get one thing straight here, you didn’t fail the first time because you came back, the only true failure is quitting and going back to the couch. A little while ago I didn’t complete a run, I was a whole mile short, and I was spent... I smiled during my stretches in the knowledge that I’d come back and do that distance soon, and it wasn’t so long ago that I couldn’t run a mile.
Anyways, enjoy week 6... slow and steady into the intervals and you got this.
You're right UnfitNoMore! Definitely not a failure It also shows how each week adds that little bit of cardio. Last attempt at 5 3 I was absolutely spent and my legs were like lead - today, it felt OK.
Lately I've also been hydrating more too - which I think is helping. I'm sure previously I wasn't drinking enough.
I'm looking forward to week 6 now :). I've actually started to feel like a runner which is a huge mental switch.
Yep... every run makes you stronger, fitter and a better runner... if I can’t fit a run in i look for any window where I can run something, even if it’s 5 minutes.
Hydration is a big thing, and often overlooked... well done getting that on track.
That mental switch is a huge moment... you’re running, you’re thinking like a runner, you’ve just done 20 minutes... that’s a runner.
