Feeling disheartened

I posted a couple of weeks ago about a number of things but said about muscle pain at top of my thigh. I stopped running for a week and iced it etc. Doc said it was tendonopathy caused by repetitive movement. I tried running after a week and promised to stop if it hurt again. I got to 2k. Currently icing it 3 times a week and not running.

So I was just wondering if anyone else had this and how long it took them to recover. Am off work with acute stress and clinical depression and running has been my lifeline and it’s so upsetting not to be able to do it. It was the one thing I was feeling successful at.

I’m worried too long not running will set me back a lot :-(

Any help or advice would be welcomed. I just feel it won’t ever get better! I have got proper trainers, go at a slow pace and have a good posture etc. Don’t know what went wrong

Sorry you’re on the IC. I don’t know anything about tendonopathy so can’t give advice but I had a month off and could still run after that. I could still run 5km, I just did it really slowly. Have you got stretches to do? I’m guessing that would help?

Somebody posted about the Japanese running/walking technique, perhaps that would be a better way of approaching things? Seems to be less impact on your legs from the video I watched/

All sorts of things change once we start exercising under-used muscles. We have to go very steadily with our progression and not push things til we have built up leg and core strength over time

You’ve been unlucky and hurt yourself but you will get well again. You can do leg exercises when the inflammation is under control. usually you know when that is as the pain eases. Exercises involving ankle, knee, calves, feet all help strengthen the legs

Depending on the severity of the injury it,could take three weeks, maybe more. while you are laid up as it were you could help yourself stay positive by ensuring you’re eating really healthily, planning new running routes, doing some short walks if you can manage it 🙂

We all have spells on the injury couch and it’s a very lonely place. Do keep checking in with us as we can hopefully support you through it.

We’re not doctors obviously so cant offer specific advice. Go back to your gp if things don’t improve as you might need referring to a physio 👍😃

We all have different bodies which respond differently to the stresses of running and periods of rest, so knowing when you will be fit enough to run again is like asking the length of a piece of string.

Just be comforted in the knowledge that you are doing the right thing to let your body recover. Most runners have to go through this process, to a greater or lesser degree, at some point and it is all part of learning about your body, so that you can use it more safely in the future, knowing that you have a susceptibility to injury in that area.

Get better soon.
