On Sunday 13/1 the stomach ache I'd had intermittently turned out to be a hernia - nothing to do with C25K, but on Dr's orders all exercise - including C25K stopped. I was gutted - almost literally! I should have graduated at the end of January, now I was laid up.
I saw the consultant last week who then told me that it was a very minor hernia, that jogging would be absolutely fine, but that I would need an op. I was all prepared for a restart when the snow hit. I stayed in bed a few days more eventually venturing out in the early hours on Monday 4/2. I wasn't sure where to drop back to in the program - it was just too disheartening to go back to the beginning - so I decided on dropping back a week for each week I'd missed.
Monday therefore I was back on W4R1 - and I failed miserably. It was like I'd forgotten how to jog - and although I finished I was aching and sore and all of the stamina I'd built up seemed to have vanished.
I just couldn't go back to W3 - so this morning I tried W4R1 again - but this time I was wary. Mentally this morning seemed like W5R3 - I was worried about the run - and as a result I went at a much slower pace - and I finished feeling much better. So onwards and upwards - there will be a break again - the hernia needs an op which will necessitate a brief hiatus. But I'm still hopeful for a March graduation - and secretly I'm really pleased that I managed to get back out there and start running again - as it would have been so easy to have used the hernia as an excuse to quit.
