When you time your run.....

Do you start from after the five minutes brisk walk? I map my distance with the Fitbit app and it tells me my pace but I start and finish it from my front door. Should I start from the end of the warm up to get my running pace?

Personally I start my tracker which gives me a 3-2-1 countdown at the end of my warmup, and it pauses itself when I hit my goal for the day if I go on a timed guided run.

What sort of tracker do you use if you don't mind me asking?

I use Nike run club.., for the guided runs mainly... I like having a coach with me.

I use a Fitbit Surge & have just started tracking only when I'm running. When I was doing c25k I was tracking door to door but since graduating, without Laura telling me when to stop, I was struggling to know what I was up to (I don't wear my glasses when I'm running & so can't read the screen!). Now I use the km vibrations on my tracker to monitor distance. Tracking just the runs is definitely helping me to monitor my pace better! Happy running 🙂

Yeah that's what I was thinking! My Fitbit tells me the time spent and distance every half mile. But I don't use it at same time as C25K. But I've noticed I am going further than I used to despite taking the same time so my pace must be faster. However with the walking as part of the calculation it seems I am not much faster than if I was brisk walking! But I know this can't be true!

I'd definitely try just tracking the running & see what they looks like. I might track my walk to work tomorrow & see how it compares to tonight's run, I wouldn't be surprised if I walk as fast as I run at times! 😂😂

Not much difference in pace over the course of 30-40 minutes tbh. That’s what I’ve found anyway

True! And it's not much about speed but it would be useful to have a number now where I am still quite new at this so I can look back in a year's time and compare lol.

Good point. I’ve done it once or twice but it didn’t tell me much tbh. Now I just set it as I’m leaving the house and pull my sleeves over my hands cos it’s cold (mines a watch)

I use the Nike Run Club app to track just the runs 🙂

I downloaded that today to have a look at! I wish there was a way to track calories burned on a mixed route. Such as, my Fitbit app only lets you set as run, walk or hike but some tracks I like are a mixture!

Good luck with it! I enjoy looking at the stats after runs. Regarding calories - I wear a Fitbit and let it do its thing. It seems to automatically detect runs and walks and I think it uses the heart rate monitor to estimate calories burned?

Try Map my Run app by Under Armour...it's free. I start it as I leave the house and then write down the stats in my journal on my return! It's amazing in 4 weeks how you do improve.

I time the lot, but I only started timing at all once I was past the interval runs. There’s not much difference between my walking and running paces anyway, and I’m interested in seeing what I accomplish in the session, not just the run.

That's what I have been doing. But I'm curious now as to just my running pace now it's 25 mins straight.

Makes sense to start timing from the end of your warm up and stop it at the start of the cool down then. All the best with it x

I'm on WK6 🏃 3 next and at about 3 this morning 💡 I woke with the thought that I can delay map my whatever 📲 by up to 5 mins . So on my first full 25 min shuffle 👣I can have accurate stats 📊

It's only taken me 17 sessions to realise that! 👏

Can you? I will have to look into that!

I use strava and find that it’s best to ignore the warm up 5 minutes- I’m trying to get to the 5km in 30 and find it easier to track to the 6 minute a km pace that way.

Yes that is what I figured! After I graduate the goal will be to try to bring my speed up a bit to reach the 5k in 30-35 mins. At the moment I'm upto about 3.8km (including the five mins walk distance).
