Soooo slow...! W4R1

5 minutes to run. Everyone says to go slowly. Right. I was happily trotting along, slowly, in my own world. Then Laura said it was time to stop running. Oh. I'd forgotten that I was running! That made me laugh!

Park run on the other side of the hedge. Said it was my goal to do that, but it looked as if there were some pretty competitive guys out there, from what I saw. Not sure I want to get into all that.

Well done. If you can forget about that you are running at this stage, you have a huge advantage over those who overthink it.

There are runners of all ages, sizes and shapes, abilities and disabilities at most parkruns and you are only competing against yourself. Don't count it out at this point.

You say that you saw some competitive guys at that parkrun🏃 on the other side of the hedge, they probably are the guys that can run a 5k sub 20 minutes. The vast majority of runners in a 5k event run it around the 25 to 40 minutes time, it does not matter a bit if they are over that time. If you want to run in a parkrun you will be welcomed😊 just like any runner 🏃is, don't let those "gazelles" as the elete runners are called put you off thinking about running in a parkrun🏃😊

Thanks! Yes, they would fit the name gazelle. Felt sorry for the old guy puffing and panting, with them flying past so fast

A bit like being on a old vintage steam train being passed on another part of the railway by a Eurostar Express

Lol don't worry about the speedy guys/gals they're just a miracle of nature for us to marvel at in awe 😍- you only get to see them once anyway* as they've left the likes of you and me🐌 behind after a minute or so.

Parkruns are fantastic and I speak as one who was 302nd out of 313 today - you're not running to beat anyone else; you're running to beat the you that was glued to the couch a few months ago, and you're doing that already.

*or twice if it's a "there-and-back" course

It depends on how many laps there are on the course, us normal joggers could be lapped as much as 3 times by a few of those gazelles.

Four times, I'm afraid. It's 31/2 times round!

Well done. Parkrun has some competitive guys for sure, but you only see them for a few seconds at the start! The rest of the experience is the masses of people doing it for fitness and fun... nothing to be afraid of.
