I would guess cramp is mainly down to dehydration. Make sure you drink plenty of water every day and especially in the 24 hours before a run. I took a litre on board this morning in the 1 hour before my run.

Welcome to the forum well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Cramp can be caused by poor hydration but can also be eased by warming up before each run and also regular stretching after each and every run as outlined in the above guide.

Enjoy your journey.

Just to say if hydration is the culprit and you do need to increase your fluid intake until your pee is a light straw colour, you will most probably find that your visits to the bathroom will increase and you’ll be getting up in the night 😀. This will settle down as your body gets used to it and it balances everything.

I'll bear that in mind! This was my first morning run- I usually run in the evening. Maybe that had a bearing. Thanks Annie W55
