W3R2 - nice and (mostly) quiet

I can tell Summer is finally over because the gym near my house doesn’t keep its fire exit open anymore, which is good because now the only one judging me when I walk by with a disgusting amount of food from McDonald’s is me.

Hey, I’m getting healthiER but baby steps. I still like my trashy food. Also I’m eating a huge greasy donut right now but that was unplanned. We have donuts in the house and I politely and very eagerly accepted the offer. Anyway I did my run, I earned this! However, it has probably undone every run I’ve done so far.

So Summer! It’s gone, which is bad because I like the sun and the sudden change makes me feel all drained and horrible, but it’s also good because I like running more when it’s slightly cooler and, more importantly, there are less people around in the evenings.

Not no people, at least not before the school holidays end, so I did have to dance around a group of kids and all their crap they’d scattered around on the path but I didn’t stop! Apart from that and someone with a dog I had the place to myself.

So I did the warm up walk, which from my house is perfectly timed to lead into the first run just my when I get onto the footpath. First 90 seconds was fine, first walk was fine. First 3 minutes wasn’t bad but it didn’t come quite as easily as it did on Monday. I got through it but the break came just in time, I needed it.

Fortunately by that point I was past the kids, off the path and heading towards the little park, which was empty! I couldn’t ask for more, really.

Incidentally this park path very briefly runs by the canal before turning away, which got me thinking, at some point it would be really cool to run along the canal proper. I might save that for a later, longer run, as long as I’m prepared to run for an audience...

Today though I stuck to the park and I loved it. I love the sound and feel of the gravelly path under my feet, I love how peaceful it is, I love that one willow tree hanging over the path so I have to duck under it, it’s just the perfect little place for a run and it’s nicely tucked away behind the houses so it’s never really busy.

The next 90 second took me around the... well, it’s either a very small lake or a very big pond, I’m not sure what the correct terminology is for a body of water this size. It’s a huge puddle. Whatever it is, it takes about 90 seconds to gently job around it. Then I walked and then I enjoyed the last 3 minute run.

I enjoyed it so much in fact that I extended it ever so slightly when it ended because I wanted to get to the end of the path I was on so I maybe run for 10 seconds longer than I should’ve.

When I stopped I really was ready to stop but felt like I could maybe go longer if I was absolutely forced to, but there’ll be plenty of time for that next week.

I, uh, had a look at week 4. That is quite a step up so... this should be interesting. I best enjoy the easy runs while I still have them.

Weirdly enough I wasn’t that sweaty today. The cooler weather probably helped but I’m going to imagine it was all entirely because I’m so great at running and it is effortless for me now.

Reality will smack me in the face pretty hard next week. I can’t wait.

Sounds like you still have a bit in the tank at the end, that is great. As the runs get longer that will really help. Good luck for next week. Rfc x.
