Advice needed.....

I did week 4, run 1 today. My knees starting hurting during week 2-3 and still hurt now when I run (and walk to be honest). Is it something that will pass? Has anyone else experienced this? It just feels like there is a lot of pressure on them.

Yep! Tubigrips help, make sure you get the right size though. I had problems around week three, which disappeared around week five but are currently back, but that's probably because my son pushed me to a higher speed! As long as it's an 'oooh, that's a bit tender' it's not a problem for me, but if it turns into a 'SWEET JIMMENY CHRISTMAS, CALL SOMEONE QUALIFIED TO GIVE ME DRUGS!' I'll keep running.

Good job on the progress in the plan.

Knee pain can be a worry. Are you aware how you land your feet? Landing on the heel tends to put your leg under more stress, landing mid foot under your body lessens this. Another possibility is shoes... it may be time for gait analysis at a specialist running store! If it’s a stabbing pain on footfall it may need support, and the opinion of a physio.

I’ve thought about going for the trainer test thing, I might have to. Thanks. Oh, and I might be landing on my heel. Although I think I change where I land depending if it hurts.

It can help to land flatter... a good gait analysis won’t just sell you the right shoe... it’ll also give you advice on footfall and the rest of your running. It’s not easy to change footfall, I’m going the opposite way, from my toes to mid foot... it takes concentration, but it does take your mind off how long is left and breathing etc, so it’s not all bad.

Ibuprofen an hour before running and then in between as needed. It doesn’t last long 👌🏽

Yep I got knee pain almost exactly the same time. It was never terribly bad (similar to the other aches and pains I got during those early days) so I just ran through it and it went by week 4. Not had it since.

A few minor aches and pains are normal during the first couple of weeks, but by W4 everything ought to have "woken up".

First port of call for any running ache or pain should always be trainers. If you haven't had your gait assessed properly, get that done quickly.

If anything hurts (rather than being sore) while you're running, STOP. Rest up for a few days.
