Am I just unfit still or could I have an issue with my breathing (exercise induced asthma)?

So been running for about 14 weeks now and can comfortably run a 5k in around 35 mnutes but I am so out of breath at certain ponts it's scary. Usually as soon as I start I have breating issues, but can genearlly calm this down if I slow down a bit, but I'm constanlty heavy breathing for the full 5k. The heavy breathing and breathlessness prett much dissapears as soon as I stop running.

I know some heavy breathing is normal when execising, but I dont know what normal is. I was very unfit before I started so I accept this may be due to my fitness level. BUt I do want to run a bit faster and for longer now.

I've heard some people suffer from Excersice induced Asthma, but I dont want to go to the docs to checkit out as I think I may just be abit unfit still

Any ideas, comments advice on the subject would be amazing

Thanks, Chris

I started off two years ago with exercise (and Cold-) induced asthma. I still pant my way around like a one-lunged carthorse at the Derby - but I have even bothered carrying my inhalers for well over a year now, and am at the ten Mile mark.

I adjust my running to my breathing - seems easier to do than "breathing to running"

Anyway, if it continues to be a problem/interfere with your enjoyment of running there is no harm in getting qualified medical advice is there :)

Wishing you many happy miles in your future ☺

Thanks John, I do feel it's probably more the unfit thing rather than anyhting else, but good advice none-the-less

Hey Chris sounds like you’re doing the right thing in slowing down when breathing gets too heavy and if you don’t feel that continues after the run, maybe it’s just about evening out your pace a bit more. I’m certainly no expert on running, so I would agree with Irish-John. If you try adjusting your pace and it continues, it may just be worth getting some medical advice for reassurance. Happy running! ❤️
