2nd Time Around

After graduating on December 22nd 2017 I carried on running until something we 50 year olds call a "health scare" happened. I won't bore you with the details, but after time spent on the IC, I decided to start again from the beginning and tonight I start week 5.

It's actually been a nice journey this time, as I know I'm capable of completing the program so I don't feel the need to push myself as hard this time. I'm completing all the timed sessions and not worrying about distances, I know that'll come.

My prime reason for running again, is the reason I stopped. An as yet undiagnosed issue leaves me thinking that should I have something to fight in the future, I'd best be the best, strongest version of me now, and running helps me take my mind off issues.

Whatever happens I will complete the program and carry on for as long as I can, hopefully well into a much older age.

Oh, and I was lucky enough to run passed this rather spectacular view on Monday!

That is a lovely photo you took 'IanIW', lovely view you took of that sunset. There is an unofficial rule regarding the time anyone is off running for any reason, especially if they have been off due to a injury, particularly if they have graduated. Less than two weeks they can resume running a 5K or more immediately, if they have been off for more than two weeks but less than 6 months then it's up to them to start wherever in the program they wish to start, more than 6 months off, as you did, as they say in that song, "lets start at the very beginning", back to week 1. I had a sore hip recently, it was only sore when I ran, so it meant that I have been off running now for about4 weeks, I will resume shortly doing my runs again, I have already had a very short run just check that I no longer have any pain down at my hip or lower down, no problem arose, so I will restart soon. My running weekdays during the C25K 9-week course were on a Wednesday, Saturday and Monday, on the Mondays, I usually ran somewhere out of my area just for a change of scenery. My plan once I resume is to run week 1 on a Wednesday, week 2 on a Saturday, week 3 the following Monday and so on, that is what I am thinking of doing, have to see if the plan goes to schedule, that way by about 4 weeks, not 9 weeks I should get back to running for 30 minutes and at last hopefully get to run a full 5K, I hope in around 35 minutes based on the pace I was running on my graduation run and the first post-graduation run.
