So with a tough work schedule this week, in order to stay on track, it’s meant today at least that I’ve had to brave a daytime run. On the hottest recorded day of the year. In the county that’s achieved the record.
No amount of hydration or bananas would’ve made W5R1 any easier....! But, that said, I completed it which is what counts, and hydrated well afterwards.
What a killer though....! This did feel at the peak of my fitness level, so it’s definitely made me nervous about completing W5R2 with those fearsome-looking 8-minute runs. That one will HAVE to be in sensible temperatures, otherwise I’m dubious about actually succeeding.
We’ll see.... onwards and... onwards....! It’s all flat here in Suffolk.... 😂

Not counting warmup/warmdown, Week 5 run 2 will be 21 minutes of which you run 16 and walk 5. Week 5 run 1 was 21 minutes of which you ran 15 and walked 6. It's not that much harder, and you have the benefit of run 1 in your legs as well. Most importantly, don't underestimate how much harder it becomes in such high temperatures - even the longer term members here have been commenting on that. So if you hydrate well and do run 2 in cooler conditions I reckon you'll be fine.
Well done I did C25K in Essex 2 years ago and must admit it was hot so used to go running about 4:30 in the morning when doing the 4 weeks but enjoyed it in a strange way. Anyway well done just keep going at a speed that will make it easy and you will be done before you know it.
I also did w5r2 this morning. It was very hot even at 9am. I was also dreading the 8 minute runs but I actually coped fine and much better than I expected. My tomato face lasted ages after my shower though 😂
Not especially looking forward to run 3 but I’m aiming to be positive. Good luck.
You are doing great! And you will be fine with the 8 minute runs... I felt the same at that stage but today I’m heading out for W8R2 - I made it through week 5 and out the other side - so you can too. 😄
Got my timings wrong with work today so going out at 9.30 instead of 8... fingers crossed it won’t be too hot then... as that does make a huge difference - so if you can get your next run at a cooler slot you’ll find it easier.
