It’s funny how 31C elsewhere and ‘31C’ in the UK can be different. We’ve had this prolonged warm weather spell and many struggle to enjoy running or struggle to run in the first place. I’m in the ‘real enjoy’ camp and was looking forward to my second summer of running/swimming in Croatia but the element of humidity is something not to be taken for granted and the chapter of ‘listen to your body’ had to be re-read.
I decided not to go for longer than 5K and picked mornings as my time to go, properly hydrated etc, etc... Although l ran without an effort and had my usual tempo, the lack of fresh air due to high humidity and sheer force of sun made me go back to the drawing board after only two runs. It will have to be either right after dawn (as it was last year) or after sunset and whatever hydration process I followed (lots), will have to go a few litres up. Or else you end up battered.
I ran here last year but this time something is different, harder, and it’s interesting how the same rules cannot be applied even if the circumstances on a weather page seem similar. No other way but threading carefully if you change the settings, no matter what level you are!
