Constant pace tips?

Hi Everyone, I’m using Strava and when I took a look at the effort analyzer within the segment detail section I can see that my pace varies quite a bit. I’m deliberately trying to run more slowly than I would be inclined to, but my pace varies anything between 8:31/ mile to 12:49/ mile (when running, not walking) and there’s no way that I am aware of a 50% change in pace. To me it just feels that I am plodding along, but the GPS evidence says otherwise. Any thoughts on whether this is just GPS variability (using the Strava app on an iPhone X), or am I really speeding up and slowing down that much??

It's a failing of the GPS. Mine varies just as wildly, and I know I'm running at a consistent pace (even if it slows over the course of the run). I just use the average page, or pace per KM, as a measure of progress.
