Just in after a sweaty morning run. Was woken by a pigeon cooing on the roof directly above my bedroom (at 5:15am) and didn’t sleep properly afterwards so was a bit daunted. However, despite my picking the nettle infested, tree-root ridden along-the-river route I managed to run 5.45k with an average 7’35/km. This is the furthest & speediest I’ve ever managed and I wasn’t trying, in fact I was muttering: “slower, slower” to myself. It just goes to show that applying the same principles of patience and persistence improvement gently happens, just as it did during the programme.
That said, I still don’t feel ready for more (yet).
Meanwhile has anyone else noticed that wildlife finds the shape and movement of a runner confusing? This morning I nearly ran over a robin. It just stood there in the muddle of the (very narrow) track staring at me.
Finally I’m really noticing my energy levels are much higher in general since I started this running malarkey. Looking at my diary I feel way better than this time last year. 😊❤️🏃🏻♀️ Are the rest of you finding the same?
Happy running and stick to the cooler ends of the day peeps.
Good for you!! Grand to get out there early and sounds like you're making good inroads into your time too. The robin was probably just concerned that this tones, limber new creature was muscling in on his territory. Watch out, birdlife - Rossinyol is coming for ya!!
Wildlife: I’ve not had many encounters as most of my runs are on streets. My foray onto the canal towpath led to close encounters with a female goose and a female duck. They didn’t seem confused at all, just angry. (And the duck had no young to be seen.)
Energy: absolutely. I used to look at people as if they were mad when they talked about doing a run or going to the gym before work and being “fired up” for the day ahead. “Fired up? I’d be worn out.” But, no, it gives me a ton of energy and such a calm mood. Love it.
