Go for it! I am on week four, never been a runner and so glad I started. You don't have to run fast, the slower the better and if you find that you can't quite complete all the runs just keep brisk walking and build up from there, but you might be surprised at how quickly your fitness improves. Good luck!

Of course you absolutely can! As a fellow Gill, albeit with a G, we can do this! This programme is designed by experts for complete beginners. Im 52, never been able to run for more than a few seconds, and am astounded by how brilliant this c25k is! Jillwill, jillcan and before you know it jilldid 🍾🏃‍♀️xx

Hi Jilllwilll

I understand your concerns I too was quite nervous apprehensive too.

Why not try running with someone? or try a safe environment like going to a gym running on a treadmill.

Once you've got your confidence up there be no stopping you.

jillwill, this programme is perfectly designed for people just like you, us! The most common phrase you will hear on here is ‘slow &steady’. And it means SLOW! Barely faster than walking. The very hardest part is stepping out your door. Just give it a go. You have nothing to lose. And a lot to gain. Good luck & let us know how you get on 👍

How do you know until you try?

There are no guarantees, but your worries are commonplace and overcome by many.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and is full of tips.

Obviously not being overweight does put less strain on your joints but being active will strengthen your body, not damage it, if you are sensible. I put off starting running for years, because of dodgy knees, only for them to now be stronger than ever after five years.

We could sit down and write a long list of reasons why you should not start running, but it would never be as compelling as the list of reasons why you should.

You can do this...........if you want to.

I am 23 stone and had little/no exercise for years and am on Week 4 with no aches or pains.......just do it you will not look back.

Ah bless you - yes I understand how it can be scary. You absolutely can do it. That’s exactly what this programme is designed for - people who have never exercised- let alone run- before. You’ll do great. You will amaze yourself. Get that first one over & then u r on your way. Good luck & please keep us posted.
