Snow in New Zealand

Just been listening to New Zealand Radio, there is apparently a lot of snow there, especially on the South Island round about the Dunedin area, just wondering if there are any brave people running C25K there.

He he well I started in February when it was blizzards often! Running in the cold and snow isn’t so bad. Better than the heat tbh 😂

I waited until the beast from the east was dead and buried before I started with C25K, I cannot say I like running or cycling in the snow, no way, but there again there are some who love running in snow and frost, trail runners don't mind how cold the weather is.

I aspire to be a trail runner except I’ve never tried it 😂

It was to be exact last October, the first day of GMT that I was out a walk and wondered what all the people gathering at this particular point were doing, they were all dressed as if they were going to run a marathon, I asked one of them and he replied 'we are all here for a trail race', a half marathon trail race, over rough terrain, for 13.2 miles, 21 kilometres, I have walked some of this course through the years, quite rough in places, there are two really quite steep hills during the last 11 kilometres, I asked one of the marshalls about it and although she had never run a trail HM she had ran normal 10k race but would never do a trail run, it takes a really strong athlete to run a trail race, different from a normal 10k or for that matter a normal HM.

I know. That’s what scares me. There’s a 5k trail local to me in July which I might try. I’ll probably die but I might give it a go 😂

Trail running is fab 🙂👍. You just go a bit slower as it’s generally harder work.

Hi AlMorr, I’m in Wellington and ran my first park run in minus 2.5 degrees, no snow fortunately, but very cold breathing in, but it hasn’t put me off, will be doing it again this Saturday. 🧤🧣⛄️
