Achilles Tendonitis

Hi all - have completed Week 7 run 3 last week. Unfortunately after playing cricket on Saturday I've now suffered a pretty bad dose of tendonitis in the left ankle (unable to walk for 24 hours bad). Anyhow been to the GP who has recommended I take a few weeks rest from the running and turn to cycling, swimming until recovered. My question is simply what week should I look to restart when back fit as it's pretty demoralising to have got to near Week 8 and then have to go back a few weeks. Or is it worth giving week 8 a crack when back and going from there? Obviously if I can't do it I'll have to reassess. Ta!!

Give it a try....if you are keeping up the other exercise, then you will be fit enough. When you head out, just take a slow, see how it goes, pace. Your body will soon let you know if it is not happy.

Keep us posted and heal well :)

Thanks Oldfloss - sounds sensible. I'm not quick anyway but I would feel pretty gutted if I couldn't say complete the 25 minutes of last week again.

I'm going to be the naysayer. If you've hurt your achilles tendon and were not able to walk on it, then you need to take a long term view. It's your achilles tendon, you know, the word that we use for something that lets you down. The ancients knew how vulnerable we are to that tendon.

It's going to be healed and you're going to be running on it in 2019. And you'll probably want to start C25K all over again. Sorry to break this news. You can probably rest it for a few weeks, go out for a gentle run and it will seem OK, but it will come back to haunt you. I'd recommend stopping all running, get yourself off to a sports physio and get it looked at properly, get some appropriate exercises and allow the achilles to heal. You've probably not got achilles tendonitis, but achilles tendonosis. Regular, daily stretching, eccentric heel-drops, swimming, not sitting too long... all these things will help. I'll rest it and see... is not going to help.

Thanks Marky that doesn’t sound too good. Will definitely consider the physio I don’t want it to get worse so if it takes six months I guess it’ll take six months.
