Hip pain - any advice please?

It's 4 months to the day since I started C25K - I can't believe it's not more than that as I feel as if running has been part of my life for ages now. I was lucky and had over 3 months with no injuries at all, but 3 weeks ago during a run I felt a sharp pain in my hip that just got worse as I kept running, so I stopped and walked the rest. It was painful for the next couple of days (you don't realise how often you run upstairs every day until every step hurts!) but I ran again after 5 days as I wanted to get a run in before I went on holiday and it was more or less OK. It was fine while I was away - I didn't do any running but did a lot of walking and had no problems. I've done 2 runs with no problems since I got back home, but today the pain came back and I had to walk back again. So I guess I need to stop running for a while - but how long should I leave it? And is there anything I can do to reduce the chances of it happening again? So far, I've been warming up before a run by walking fast for 5 minutes as in the C25K podcasts. Any advice very welcome!

Hi. I had an issue on R1 W6 and the pain was so unbearable I could hardly walk. I’d had a niggle during W1 but it went away. However after this I went to see a Physio who sorted me out, I had ruptured a muscle running from my lower spine to my hip. This was nothing to do with running but a problem caused by being on crutches for 8 weeks earlier in the year. After 2 sessions I’m now back on the programme and pain free. So my advice is go and see a Physio and don’t give up!!

Thanks - glad you are able to run again now. I don't think mine is as bad as yours sounds; I've been out walking today and it's a bit sore but definitely not unbearable and I can cycle fine. So I think I'll give the running a break for a few days and then see how I go, but if it happens again I'll try a physio.
