Yeaurgh.....

Well, that didn't go as well as I thought. First run of week 6 this morning, and I felt so chilled and confident - after Friday, I thought it would be a breeze, and I'd be back, showered and feeling rejuvenated within 45 minutes.

But no. It was rubbish. I struggled with my breathing, my legs were like lead, and even the downhill bits were uphill. I did manage to smile at a nice old señor who was making encouraging noises as I ran along the tram platform, but that was the only nice bit of the run.

So now I feel totally deflated. Does anybody have any ideas about what went wrong? I didn't have the best night's sleep, but that's not unusual, and although I was woken up by hay fever sneezes, that was under control before I set out. Obviously, I'm not thinking about giving up, but what a disappointment. :(

Well done......you still completed, you could have given up......I think some days are just better than others and some worse than others for no real reason.......just the tale of running......I was just reading up about when the best time of day is to run and late afternoon seemed to come up best....apparently it’s when your body works best. I run in the morning about 6 am, just so no one sees me......but it is hard, think I may have to change my timing.......I’m sure you will ace the next run 😀

Agree what Ally25 says. Don't worry about it. I'm sure next time will be better! :)

IIRC this is the run that sneaks up on everyone. Like you said you feel hyped and confident after w5r3. I think a lot of people just expect the intervals to be easier but it’s not. Just keep on keeping on 😊

Apparently this is the toughest run in the program. Don’t worry.

The curse of w6r1 raises its head again. Look in Topics and week 6 you will see numerous posts there about this run.

On the other hand you may have just experienced 'one of those runs'. They happen now and again for no obvious reason (assuming there is nothing obvious) just to test us I reckon. You're next run will probably be back to normal or even better than usual. Sending best wishes for a brilliant run next time.

Good work getting the run done despite it not feeling great!

I ran my first run of week 6 this morning, and I think for me, I was expecting it to be much easier than the 20 minutes run we ran before this one. (If I was thinking logically I would remember that each week is a progression in building up to 5K, but I guess I lost my head a little today.) So I ran a bit fast in the beginning and forgot the breath properly, but managed to catch myself and slow down for the other runs, but the session was hard today for me as well.

Maybe you went out too strong as well? Maybe you were a bit dehydrated? Or you might just have had an off day?

Whatever it was, you completed the run anyway and your next run will probably feel better. I usually force myself to go super slow (snail pace slow!) in the start of a run after I've had a "bad" run and then pick up the pace (if I can) at the end instead. It's what works for me anyways.

Hope your next run(s) will feel better!

I think I may have started a little too speedily - my warm up took me to the top of a hill, so I was straight into a downhill speedathon. Dehydrated? Also possible. Spent a couple of hours on the beach yesterday, and it was pretty hot. AND I always manage to forget to drink plenty on rest days.

Wednesday's another day, right? I'll cheer you on before I go out. x

Well then, let's both make sure we hydrate well and don't start too strong on Wednesday. I'll make sure to cheer you on as well and we will crush the next session! =)

Thanks everyone. I'm going to find myself a mantra and think some positive thoughts. Wednesday WILL be better!!

Wow, I could have written that! Did my W6R1 this morning too and it was a struggle. First time I haven’t enjoyed a run. Had no energy and didn’t feel good afterwards. Normally I feel great all day but felt rubbish and deflated. Hoping Wednesday’s run is better for both of us!
