I normally have no issues with weather conditions but is anyone out there getting a bit cross with this rain? Which follows that snow? That left that black ice?

I'm into final stages of half marathon training where l need to go out and splish splash through three consecutive days of 8k-5k-8k, getting wet treatment by whatever name we call this storm. Oh well...

On the plus side, l would like to use this opportunity to thank the person who invented heated seats in the cars. Madam (or sir), l thank and salute you. Your efforts made my back dry in no time. May you live long and lead an exquisite life!

Dryly yours!

Good luck with your HM, you sound like a mr motivator.🌟👏👏😂😂

The fear of going back to where l was before l started running is by far the biggest motivation! ;) I never knew that body and mind could develop so well.

Oh yes, the weather doesn’t normally bother me too much either.....but this is getting a real pain.....I did a HM at the begining of March, the whole build up has been in the awful weather, not able to get off road due to mud etc., so trudging on tarmac, then just been away to Spain for a week, and what did it do? Rain....wind and cold....no different to running here - apart from it was on a sea front.....bonus - it was practically deserted.....(?) was looking forward to this weekend brightening up and uncovering the patio furniture.......but oh no.....gonna be leggings and underlayer + for parkrun too.......booooo! 🙄

Ever the optimist, I’m hoping to release the patio furniture next weekend....😎🌤

My god, you should. We all should. People used to dance around fire to deter evil spirits, maybe we should try it with garden furniture? Maybe rain gets the message?

I have been known to dance around the patio.........sounds like a plan.......i’m in! We definitely need a discussion with the ‘management’......Good luck with your HM........it’ll be great!

It has felt a bit relentless. :-( I am tired of soggy feet and my boggy park. I do feel for you, especially as you are in training.

TWICE this week I have valiantly hauled my sorry backside out of a warm bed at 5:30am to get my run in, in the rain, only to look out of my office window but two short hours later to see a sky so blue and white fluffy clouds! Whilst I am trapped in the office. Sunny. Blue skies. Meh.

Good luck with the rest of your training runs! When's the race?

When rain stops AFTER the run, that's the price that us, determined runners, pay for our love. My wife told me it wasn't raining where she was. Oh for goodness sake, she was around Piccadilly when l was running in south London, not in another country!?

There is no race, l train and will run the distance alone, l always do. In my professional life l see and l communicate with lits of people, and mine is not a usual 9-5 routine.

Running alone is my escape and my sanity shelter! ;)

I am a solitary runner too, mrruns, I like my own space when running, both physical and mental. For that reason I have never wanted to enter a race - never thought to do my own! That’s a very good idea!

Got out this morning BEFORE the rain, and did a lovely gentle 6k through the woods. Felt good. Had a couple of short walk breaks, breaking my own rules about not stopping, but it made for a really comfortable joy run. A couple of hours later and the heavens opened...

Happy wet Easter!

Yes I love heated seats too but they give me a heat rash after I've been running. I think it's the combination of sweat and heat 😖.

Good luck with the rest of your training.

Thank you, Princess!

Skin rush is small change to pay when you finally make it back inside through the curtain of rain only for the darn thing to stop bucketing down the moment l start the engine.

I swear that the guy above has got me on his radar!

Ha ha.. I agree with you on the warm car seats:)

I just need a bit of warmth on this old back :) Although I have bought some very sassy summer weight running gear for the hot days to come :)

Very, very well done you.. a true runner... :)

Once this chapter is done l will let you know how it all went. There have been some 'moments' during the build up, l have this rare talent of pushing the luck when l really should not. He he....

I'm in Canada and it's about to get worse here before it gets better. Yesterday was the nicest day of the year so far where I am, at 8C and sunny, before that we had ice, snow, etc... still lots of it hanging around but the April showers should melt it quickly when they finally arrive. I am new to outdoor running in cool/wet weather and find it so difficult to know what the heck to wear. Cold and rainy is my least favourite weather. I'll take -20C and sunny above 2deg and rain.

Good luck with it!!

There is always been something about Canada that l loved. When l visited a few times my priorities where different, l was much younger and (cough) l loved partying. That was decades before l discovered running, and l hope l will run there one day.

All the best of luck with the weather, l know you've had some tough times!

Welcome Amandana , from other Canuck 😁. There's a few of us on here. Decker is from the East (Ontario) and Runswithdogs and I are from the west (Alberta and Saskatchewan). What part of the country are you from? It sure has been a tough year this year!!! The pathways were finally clear again so I thought I'd get out for a run today but we're in an Alberta clipper right now - huge amounts of snow again 😕. Maybe I'll pull out the snowshoes instead 🤔

Thanks!

I'm in Sudbury Ontario - where we are having a full on winter revival now... the snow was melting, and now we're getting another dump and over night lows in the minus double digits! I am taking the c25k pretty slowly - I have been experiencing more aches and pains than I expected but am signed up for a 5k in May and will cross the finish line whether walking or running. :) I'd really like if my city had parkruns but looks like I need to drive 2h east or 3h west to participate in the closest ones. Do you have them out west?

SaskAlliecat profile image
SaskAlliecatGraduate in reply to Amandana

My closest parkrun is 5 hours away ☹️ . I wish we had one closer too, they look like a great run to look forward to every week. I had done really well getting out in full-on winter to achieve my runs this winter but this latest winter renewal has stopped me in my tracks. I really need spring to get here. Taking C25k slowly and allowing your body to adjust is a great idea. I'm sure your 5k in May will go well, especially if Mother Nature would start co-operating 😄

I hear you - I can handle winter all winter... and then once I'm in the "spring" head space... I'm done with it!

Fingers crossed for a quick melt and a warm spring!

Yes, I have this feeling about the weather, like I want to talk to a manager

The manager high above seems to be busy. I prayed but he was on another call. ;)

When it started snowing the other day I seriously considered getting all my neighbours together and pointing our hairdryers at the sky. My daughter gently persuaded me to come back inside and made me a cup of strong coffee. I was still grumbling an hour later but it had stopped snowing. I agree, though, and I have learned a valuable lesson: do not sign up for anything longer than a 10k in Spring, because I hate training in the cold and wet.

I hope your HM goes well.

Hairdryers at the sky? I like that, it's a strong move, ignore your daughter on this one and count me in, I'll use a blow torch.

In my case only illness can stop me from going out there but I'd lie if l said I've enjoyed every run. Some were hard and far from any pleasure. My son, who swims competitively and knows what being pushed hard means, asked me a few days ago if l really wanted to go out there, while pointing at the sorry sight of a blanket of rain... l went...

But, hey, life takes me to Croatian coast next week for 10 days and l checked out the running routes and the weather. BBC (l checked it twice) shows 19C and clear skies. Annie, l will take that ;)
